Re: Lot J to be shut down - converted to casino - threads merged

My understanding is that they are going to buy up a lot of those run down warehouse properties south of the stadium and are building a sports/casino complex. Should have bars, restaurants, etc. If it's done right I think it will be a BIG improvement over that mess that's there now.

I'm not happy about lost parking either but in the end I think renovating that area will be a big plus to the city.

I'm a little pissy too about the fact that my name on the permit waiting list just dropped big time. I did vote slots primarily because I'm on the Eastern Shore and it's ridiculous the amount of money that our people give to DE via Harrington and Dover. Plus, I work in higher ed and know the effects that the shortfall was going to have on our tuition. Hopefully, you guys won't be too displaced. I know cash lots suck. Can't tell you how much I love dropping $40 each Sunday to park at Staples for my little corner of the tailgating world. That being said, Baltimore showed dramatic improvement when the harbor was built up. I'd love to see the area around the stadium revitalized. The only potential downfall I can see is it is going to make Baltimore an even more favorable road game for incoming teams and their asshole fans. We try to do a road game each year and last year we did Buffalo (along with about 5,000-7000 of our closest friends...:-) The one thing we kept hearing was why would you come here to Buffalo? There's nothing here. At least Baltimore has stuff to do.
Sick and tired of transplants. If Pissburgh is so great, carry your black-lung asses back there.

    :word

That part of the city is a crap hole right now. I am sad that the folks here will lose thier lot, but in the grand scheme of things it's a big win for the city.

Although I do mourn the loss of this lot, if it means more of downtown gets the Inner Harbor treatment I am behind it. I always thought the southside of the stadium pales in comparision to other city's stadiums with it's run-down warehouses.

85% of the seats at M&T are PSL owned (or some percentage close to that). The other 15% sell out in 20 min. each year. If we don't want travelling assholes invading our house, I think we all know how to prevent it.

Let's hold ourselve to a higher standard than those sell-out Redskin fans. :hammer:

Be aware that virtually every year the city threatens to close the Sharp-Ledenhall school to tailgating. There have been complaints about drinking, public urination, etc so don't be surprised if this lot becomes off limits in the near future too.

Problem is that it's a city elementary school that leases the lot to the Ravens Nests. Technically alcohol is not allowed on public school property. They have sort of overlooked this detail and happily accepted the cash, but as complaints come in from school employees that have told the Nest to tone it down or risk losing the lot.

I tailgated there the last three years but now take a bus up to the games. I know they instituted a policy that drinks must be served in cups. No driking from beer cans anymore.
