Lot J to be shut down - converted to casino - threads merged

For anyone who tailgates on Lot J as I do, I have some really bad news.

Apparently, the land that Lot J is on, was bought yesterday by Baltimore City for a new slots palor. My friend who got me the pass, was just informed about the sale. (It is also in the Baltimore Sun, but it isn't referenced to as Lot J.) As of right now, the Ravens and the State have no clue what's going on and are going to meet with city officials.

Since all Ravens lots are full, moving to another lot is not an option. So, we might be SOL for the remaining games this season. And we are definitely SOL for next season and beyond.

Thanks for those of you who voted for slots on Tuesday because it's fallout is going to create a lot of angry, displaced Ravens fans.

If the new downtown casino location refers to Lot J, it sucks!

Is there any other Ravens stadium lot south of the stadium (other than the players' and VIP lots)? See Sunpaper:

Thirteen hours after Marylanders voted to legalize slot-machine gambling, Baltimore officials approved yesterday the city's $4.1 million purchase of land south of downtown for a proposed casino......

In Baltimore yesterday, the city Board of Estimates voted 4 to 1 to pay $4.1 million for a parking lot site the city hopes to lease to developers vying to bring slots to the city. The land, currently used for Ravens football parking, was appraised at $3.7 million, said M. Jay Brodie, the president of the Baltimore Development Corp.

I had heard earlier that the City had been looking for land adjacent to the Greyhound Terminal for the casino, but in the subsequent story of the Ray Lewis connected development between Lot J and Greyhound, it appeared that Lewis' group was going to acquire all that strip of land.

If it is Lot J, our only hope would be that the casinos would be closed on game-days (not likely!).

Anyone with more knowledge than this dumbshit Sun cub reporter, please chime in!

Gosh I'm sorry I didn't think of that. I was only thinking about how ALOT of in state $$ is spent in surrounding states due to slots (& not only at the casinos/track but also restaurants, hotels, bars, gas stations, convenience stores, etc.) And the failing MD horseracing industry (the possibilty of losing the Preakness) and all of those whose livelihoods are involved and how if this state can push scratch offs, the Pick 3, the pick 4, Keno, bets at race tracks, etc. that is was pretty silly to continue to push the revenue associated with slots to WVA, DE, PA.

I should have voted no to question #2 because some fans will have to find a new lot 8 x a year.......

-As opposed to people losing their jobs , immeadiate higher taxes and the Preakness moving. See where I'm going here?

If we were being displaced because of them putting a Poker Parlor so I didn't have to drive to the dump that is A.C., then I would be OK with moving. I did vote for Slots but I didn't know it would affect my drinking on Sunday mornings!

If they do anything with that lot this year, there will be hell to pay. I have four passes in my hand that say I can park there.

Maybe the HILTI lot is still an option...

I saw the graphic on the late news last night, and it is definitely Lot J.

We are screwed for next year. Time to find another option.

I talked to Cynthia today: we are definitely fucked!!! The Maryland Stadium Authority hasn't evicted Central Parking yet, but it's inevitable.

Wow, that does suck royal. I was surprised to hear that slots even passed in MD.
Wonder if the Ravens will do anything to accommodate all that tailgate in Lot J?

This is a terrible location for the venue. Not because we are losing our tailgate lot (we can see if Steve can get us in over where they have REAL toilets), but because it will be a nightmare for parking during Ravens and Orioles games combined with the gambling parking. THIS IS IDIOTIC. If the place draws anybody it will make parking during games terrible, not to mention traffic.

This is idiotic.

Tough break guys. Still seems like an odd place for a slots parlor, down past M&T in a neighborhood of broken-down warehouses and BARCS. I guess they plan on upgrading the entire neighborhood (resturaunts and bars) to get walk-up traffic from the inner harbor and downtown hotels.
