The Good And The Bad (Week 15)

    The Good:

    1. WE ARE IN THE FREAKIN PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!

    2. We are 11-3 which far exceeds what I had predicted for the season. (I predicted that we'd finish 10-6).

    3. Kyle Boller. He stepped in and showed that he has been paying attention to McNair. I would not go as far as to annoint him our future (Mr. T) at QB, but he showed that he could be a very valuable 2nd stringer for us or for some other team in the future.

    4. Jamal Lewis. Okay, I think Jamal should have his contract restructured and that he returns here for two more years. It is obvious that Jamal did not fit in Fassel's schemes. While Jamal is not and never will be the Jamal of old (the old Jamal would have had 200 rushing yards), he has shown that he is still good enough to run the ball effectively. 110 yards on 20 carries is a very good day and what we need of Jamal.

    5. Ovie-Wan. We need to re-sign him now! This guy has grown into possibly a better FB than what Ricard and Sam Gash produced.

    6. Demetrius Williams. Spiderman is our future. 100 yards on 2 catches! Imagine what this kid will do next year? We need to get this kid the ball more.

    7. Mark Clayton. Another impact catch late in the game. Mark is clutch!

    8. Todd Heap! This guy is almost as automatic as Stover. Heap can make catches even with 5 guys around him. How many times did Heap make a catch today with someone on his back?

    9. Our defense! Who will want to play us here at home against this defense which has to be the hardest hitting and fastest defense in football.

    10. Sam Koch. If Zastudil was "The Weapon," then what is Sam Koch?

    11. The commercial, "This is what mom would feed you if mom were a man." Does anyone else find those commercials hilarious?

    12. Billick. For having the guts to sit out McNair and going with Boller. The second time Billick has made a gutsy decision that worked out for him.

    13. Dawan Landry. Je is the NFL's DROY.

    14. Ronnie Prude. He did nothing special today, but I just really like this kid!

    The Bad:

    1. Kyle Boller. Let's hope McNair returns next week, because while Kyle played well, he was .....Kyle. Same fumbling. Same tripping over his own feet. Same fumbling snaps. The INT did not bother me, because at least it was deep in their own territory. Additionally, you see what happens when you are too aggressive on offense. Give me conservative any day (except for in politics).

    2. Cory Ross. Can we please put Mark Clayton back there on Punts? This stage is too great to place on a non-drafted rookie. Ross seems overwhelmed.
    It's a new season! It's a new day!

Actually Kyle didn't trip over his feet. Both of his feet went out from under him at the same time. He tried that eratic bunny-hop and fell flat on his face.

Yeah he fumbled the snap. The guy is way to darned energetic and it causes him to move to fast. With McNair here, most people have seen Boller start to become a little more patient in the pocket so the hope is that we'll be seeing that problem fixed as well.

Kyle didn't fumble the snap. Watch the replay. He fumbled when he turned to hand it off. Small difference but just wanted to point it out. As for Ross I don't care how well he returns just hold on to the ball.
The Steelers: Still looking for a legit Super Bowl victory.

I heard the word "tremendous" used on the 105.7 post-game show. That plus the stat sheet and what I saw I about 75% disagree with the bad and I'll leave it at that.

Was Jermaine Lewis drafted by the Ravens? I thought he to was an undrafted free agent punt returner. He took one to the house in Super Bowl 35 if I recall (he may have taken another back in the playoffs that year but I can't remember). I may be wrong on Jermaine, he may have been drafted in the 6th or 7th round. My point is you don't necessarily need a high draft pick to find a good return specialist. Give Corey some time. I think there were some fans calling for BJs head last year too.

Jermaine was a 5th round draft choice.

I have been very unimpressed with Ross. He looks slow and confused everytime he gets the ball.

I could see him coughing one up at a critical part of the game for us.

A week ago I was giving Ross the benefit of doubt, but he looks lost on punts. He does an adequate job on kickoff returns, but he's been pretty bad returning punts. He basically just seems to catch the ball and then wait to get tackled. There must be somebody better on the roster for that job.

Let's give Ross one more week then throw him under the bus. In fairness, he wouldn't be sniffing returns if BJ wasn't out. Let's see if he can get his feet under him.

I'd rather him than take a chance on wearing out Mark Clayton.

Re: The Good And The Bad (Week 15)

Didn't Ross have one or two decent returns that were called back on penalties? The penalties on special teams concern me at least as much as Ross' abilities.

As long as he learns to fair-catch and see the ball all the way in, he'll be OK.

So far he at least looks better than Sams' predecessor-who-shall-not-be-named.
