Re: Raven's 2008 Roster
Preston has gotten better since Harbaugh has come to town...
So Jamison Hensley is the first person I've seen to call out Gaither's work ethic. Everyone was amazed last year with the amount of work he put in and the way he stepped up to the learning curve.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Granted, I don't think Gaither is quite ready to start, but for being a young, raw player who came in last year and was able to start acclimating himself to the NFL, I thought Gaither got off to a great start last year..

Re: Raven's 2008 Roster
If I had to make guesses...
QB: All three are locks, but I'd like to think if we are able to cheaply sign a good veteran mentor at QB, Boller becomes expendable.
RB - Willis and Ray Rice are locks. We'll carry at least 3 backs, so I'd call Cory Ross an almost lock, because he has shown the most of the remaining RBs with both his running skills and ST play. PJ Daniels and Allen Patrick are bubble players.
FB - McClain is a lock, Green is an almost lock
WR - Mason, Clayton, DW are locks, as is Marcus Smith (unless he totally blows it, we almost never cut a 4th round pick in the year they were drafted). Harper is a bubble player, but I bet we give him the benefit of the doubt. I'd also keep an eye on Matt Willis, he'll be competing with Harper for the last spot...made the team at the end of last year, he's got some potential.
TE - Heap and Wilcox are locks. Quinn is likely out, so we'll find a 3rd TE either through UDFA or vet FA.
OL - Ok, we carry at least 9 OL. This category is also tough with a ? on Ogden. As of now, I'd have to include him because I don't think we cut him until he says he retires for good....So Ogden, Brown, Chester, Grubbs, and Yanda. Terry and Gaither are the backup Ts, with Cousins also able to backup G and T. #9 is David Hale, who I'd label as almost lock...if a UDFA outperforms him, he's gone.
DL - Pryce, Gregg, Ngata are locks. Bannan and Dwan Edwards are almost locks. Amon Gordon and J'Vonne Parker bubble players.
LB - Suggs, Ray, Bart, JJ, Gooden, Barnes, Griesen, and Branden Ayanbedejeo, all locks. Sadly, I'd have to say rest are bubble, due to the fact that 8 LBs are locks, and I don't see us carrying anymore than 9 or 10. So Cody, Burgess, Stills, Edgar Jones, Mike Smith, Robert McCune, all bubble.
DB - Cmac, Rolle, Washington are my CB locks. Ivy, Frank Walker, and Pittman are almost locks. Ronnie Prude and Derrick Martin are bubble. At S, Ed Reed and Dawan Landry are locks. Nakamura, Zbikowski are almost locks. Rest are camp fodder.
ST - Stover is a LOCK...I can't see this organization cutting him before he retires. Koch and Katula also locks. Whoever the K we signed UDFA was, he is an almost lock..

Re: Raven's 2008 Roster
I'd say them thar are some pretty good guesses.
I liked what i saw of Matt Willis in preseason last year. Was sorry to see him cut, but was brought back to the practice squad so others saw something also. My impression was that the guy caught what he got his hands on (seems to be a rare commodity among receivers these days). WIth now a year of practice squad/some final game experience, he is one I will be checking on. Maybe the question was strength- he should have more now especially if any of our workout warriors rubbed off on him. Maybe it was route versitility or separation techniques, and again something that should have gotten better in the past year. So he is one that has my strong interest.
There are players whose paper stats/measureables don't look special, but somehow on the field they deliver and I smell one here.
I'd add Tavares Gooden to the close to lock list, maybe even lock with our history/eye for players like him. Oops missed you including him so editing this, sorry :o
Cody may make the team, but my gut says if he is injured, he is gone. With us not using the PUP list, we weren't hiding/stockpiling players like I've seen others try, so I assume Cody really was injured. I'd say of all the bubbles, his is the closest to :D bubble-lock-pop :D

Re: Raven's 2008 Roster
Can I please have some more on Gaither? What is this 'work ethic' thing?

Re: Raven's 2008 Roster
I would have to agree with this. There are those who would argue that Matt Stover has done more for this franchise than any other person in it's history, especially when you consider how anemic this offense has been. Unless he dies or retires, he's going to be our field goal kicker.

Re: Raven's 2008 Roster
It's one of those cool-kid club secrets everyone brags about on the other board. They feel so priveledged that for $100 a year Aaron tells them little tidbits like this. They then spew "elitist", inside information, braggart nonsense all over the board until the bastardized version is "common" knowledge. I'm surprised the article didn't make it here for free the next day.... as they usually do.

I haven't posted in this thread yet, hurrah for the confusion of shared avatars among the UKRavens :D
As for this roster, I think Gaither is absolutely a lead pipe lock to make this team and I've actually got this feeling that he will be starting at left tackle for us sooner rather than later.

Re: Raven's 2008 Roster
I like Justin Harper for some reason. I think he makes this roster as the fifth wide-out and the teams deep threat. Should make it darn interesting if we ever decided to go five WRs.
