ok, I'm about to reverse stance...I don't see us taking McKelvin at #8...just don't get that feeling about it...your scenario is a bleak one, with most of our top targets gone (Gholston, Chris Long, Matt Ryan, Keith Rivers), and with McFadden off the board, less demand for a trade.

Here's what I see us doing, in order:

    1. Trade down for someone wanting to take Sedrick Ellis
    2. Take Ryan Clady
    3. (tie) Take Sedrick Ellis or Take Derrick Harvey
    4. (tie) Take McKelvin or DRC

McKelvin is a nice specimen, but I don't think we have him rated at #8...I'd be happy with getting him or DRC, but more around 10 or lower...Ellis is my "fear" pick from Round 1, since I can't see us utilizing him in such a way that he's a HUGE impact player in this draft, but he's still a beast of a player, so that'd be worth it.

I'm suprised in your mock that both Flacco AND Henne are on the board at our pick...I see someone trying to trade into late 1st or early 2nd to grab Flacco ahead of our pick, but I'm with you on the Henne pick, I think he's our guy unless Ryan makes it to #8 or Brohm makes it to our 2nd.

Malcolm Kelly, what a fall...one the #1 WR in the draft, now he falls to Round 3!

Call me a Special Teams coach again. I dare you! I double dare you, MFer!

I agree with you about the trading up into the 1st round for the QB of their choice from a certain franchise, but with the number of teams that could do it I decided to be unambitious in deciding who that team might be. Plenty of teams have the ammo, but the number of rumours we've heard I think everyone has been linked with every one of the top QBs at the top of their board as the guy they really like at some point or another.

I'm now convinced that if Ryan is not there, or within reach, that we will do absolutely EVERYTHING in our power to get off of the pick. Ellis is a horrible fit, but has good trade value, and as you have said, McKelvin or a similar valued player, Jenkins(DRC us a MUCH lower valued prospect in my eyes) would be around later. Guys liek Clady and Albert are way overvalued at 8, IMO. Harvey would be a last reasort IMO, thoguh maybe McKelvin as well, but again, I'd be astounded if we pick at 8 with Ryan gone.

My reasoning is the extreme costs of moving back into round 1, and the NEED to stockpil enough picks so that we don't have to include next years first to get our QB. IF we were gonna trade next years first, we might as well move up to 2 now with STL and get Ryan. I have no doubts they'd trade back to 8 for another first. If Not ATL would, in lieu of picking Ryan...

Wow Stockers! Those are the two picks I predicted for us in the UK Ravens emails the other day.

Not that I think you're basing your entire draft around my infinite football knowledge or anything...

I generally agree with you, except about Ellis. I think if we can't get off the pick, we'll take him; and we might take him anyway.

I don't agree at all he's a horrible fit. Stick him next to Ngata and you've got one plugger and one pass rusher. The Giants did this quite effectively last year.

    Re: UKRavenStockers' Ambitious Mock Draft

    Whew, nice daring post :)
Only thing sticking with me is that McK is a reach at #8, and Ravens FO avoids reaching.
I think he still is a reach at 10, maybe not at 12 but borderline.
Best case if you are spot on, is that we can move down a little for someone who covets Ellis, and I can see a couple of possible takers, from NO to Car to even Cincy protecting their interests with a trade up one spot.
If not that, I can't see our FO passing BPA in Ellis, regardless of our need. My impression is that if he makes it down to 8, he is well ahead of everyone after him on most (if not all) boards. Our coaching has changed a bunch, but the office hasn't and to pass BPA has not been the Raven way of drafting.
I won't panic/worry if we do take Ellis, but I'll be listening for draft and trade news and hoping.

Pretty good...but I have a little different view:

    Round 1:
    1. Miami Dolphins – Jake Long, OT, Michigan
    2. St Louis Rams – Chris Long, DE, Virginia
    3. Atlanta Falcons – Glenn Dorsey, DT, Louisiana State
    4. Oakland Raiders – Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
    5. Kansas City Chiefs – Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
    6. New York Jets – Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State
    7. New England Patriots (f. 49ers) – Keith Rivers, LB, Southern California
    8. Baltimore Ravens – Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy
    9. Cincinnati Bengals – Sedrick Ellis, DT, Southern California
    10. New Orleans Saints – Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee State

The the rest of the first round hinges on the Atlanta pick at #3.

Ellis is a poor fit for a couple of reasons, IMO.

#1, first and foremost... He is not NEARLY the player that Ngata is, in my mind. Why bring this up? Becuase I think that drafting Ellis, signs Ngata's ticket out fo town in a couple of years. We already have too much money tied up in DT's.

#2. We currently play a 3-4 and he'd be the 4th or MAYBE the 3rd DT on our team, isn't likel;y to be able to cover all the gaps a 3-4 DE needs to, and would get completely obliterated at the nose.

#3 I don't plan on playing a stinking cover2, which is in my opinion, Ellis' only fit as a pro player. UT in the Cover 2. NO is right to covet him, he'd be a good fit for their system.

    Re: UKRavenStockers' Ambitious Mock Draft

After listening to the radio and the so called experts, I agree that if we don't get Matt Ryan, the Ravens have about a 50% chance of trading off the pick. I don't think any of the CBs are worth the 8th pick. The only way I see us staying there is if we pick up Ryan Clady or Sedrick Ellis. But I am leaning toward us trading out of the spot. I think the Ravens want to nail down this QB pick, as their first pick. They either want Henne or Flacco and maybe Brohn, but they definitely want 1 of those 4 guys.
