Re: McNair in the HoF?
Of course you are entitled to your opinion, and of course you are always right.:grbac:
However, if there is a "stretch" in comparing the two QBs, it would be in trying to compare the weak armed short passes thrown by McNair to the Banks bombs. IMHO, Banks (supported by lesser talented receivers and a lesser Ravens Defense in 1999) was a more effective Ravens QB than McNair.
This compares Banks' & McNair's respective two-year regular season stints:
1st season as a Raven:
Banks 1999 (10 starts: 7-3)
169/320 = 53%
2136 yards
12.6 yds/completion
81.2 QB rating
17 TD
8 INT
11 fumbles
33 sacks
McNair 2006 (16 starts 13-3)
295/468 = 63%
3050 yards
10.3 yds/completion
82.5 QB rating
16 TD
12 INT
7 fumbles
14 sacks
2nd season as a Raven:
Banks 2000 (8 starts: 5-3)
150/274 = 55%
1578 yards
10.5 yds/completion
69.3 QB rating
8 TD
8 INT
5 fumbles
20 sacks
McNair 2007 ( 6 starts)
133/205 = 65%
1113 yards
8.4 yds/completion
73.9 QB rating
2 TD
4 INT
8 fumbles
11 sacksIn a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

Re: McNair in the HoF?
I don't think he will make the Hall of Fame, although he will be given much consideration. His overall body of work was very, very good and he is only one of three players to pass for over 30,000 yards and have over 3,000 yards rushing. The negatives which will hold him back are 1) no Super Bowl victory 2) He ended his career on a very very bad note with all of the fumbles and interceptions. 3) The last playoff game versus the Colts was awful.

Re: McNair in the HoF?
I think he will...but iMO he is not a HOF caliber QB.
I wonder how his numbers compare to other QBs from 1994 - 2007.
No doubt Favre goes in on the first ballot. If McNair does then the shining light on Favre is dimmed in my view. Favre and McNair aren't even in the same ballpark.
Rich Gannon, put up a few big years, but was not a runner and no way he goes to the HOF. How does McNair compare to Culpepper?

- Peyton Manning
- Tom Brady
- Brett Favre

That really could have been the whole thread after the original post. Those 6 words are why IMO, McNair has a BIG UPHILL BATTLE, if he thinks he's a hoffer.

Re: McNair in the HoF?
My question is would we even be having this debate had Steve won a Super Bowl?! I don't think so.

Re: McNair in the HoF?
mmmmm maybe yes, maybe no...
One of the talkign heads(I forget which) stated that if McNair had been in baltimore his whole career he'd have rings enough for a whole hand.
He wasn't so what's the point of asking. The fact is, that at this point in time, AT LEAST 3 players from his generation EASILY seperate themselves from him. Therefore, he was AT BEST the 4th best QB of his generation. Thats Team HOF worhty, but not league wide.
