Re: NFL back in UK 08

Thanks again for your input Dunk. We welcome anyone from the main boards taking time to read and post in this forum.

We are not holding out much hope of a Ravens game here in the near future - for one we are far too unpopular. In fact I'd go as far to say the we are the most unpopular NFL team in the UK!

I am MUCH more interested in coming to MD for a game again in 2008

Our only chance of coming over is as a road team and there's far too many teams with attendance "issues" or the likes of the Chiefs renovating their stadia to give up a home game. But with the success (financial at least) of the game last October, I should think the NFL's full 16 year plan of everyone giving up a home game in that time frame will go through.

We might get it as a road team, you never know but I wouldn't hold out a great deal of hope.

We're not the least popular team in the UK, teams like the Texans, Saints etc. have almost no following.

And I'm in total agreement on your last comment Dave.

I stayed away from mentioning the actual support ( I knew some teams have NONE!!!) I was stating the case on un-popularity - us being a team to hate!!!!

As for 2008, it's very early but I'm working on an evil master plan that gets me to a game in 2008. I'll email with the outline as I do not want to go too public at the moment!!!

Got to limit myself to only a few smilies per post!!!

    Stop it

Looks like two more sets of NFL fans stateside are going to get angry in 08.
I would not be angry -- I would just find the best air fare to the UK. I would hope that, if the Ravens are announced as one of the teams, we would be the "road" team to preclude a 7 game home season. But I would go in either event.
In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

Be careful wishing for a Ravens game in the UK next year or in the future if you are from Baltimore. Giants/Dolphins had 500K request for 90K seats. I was in contact with these fine people (UK Ravens) for 6 months prior to the game, thanks to the Ravens putting out a yearbook with an article on these guys. I basically could not get a ticket on my own (unless I hit the seat lottery, which I did not). 2 weeks prior to the trip the UK Ravens pulled thru and landed me a ticket for the game. The seat policy is definitely geared towards the UK and Europe people (which I can't argue with). I have a friend who is a Giants season ticket holder who I thought might have an "in" for tickets but he was offered nothing. Of course the Giants were the road team so that may be why. I would like to know what Miami season ticket holders were offered or not offered.
If the Ravens are coming, I call first DIBs on any ticket the UK Ravens come up with!!!!

I think a lot more tickets will be about for the second time around. If we had not sold out the first time they would have thought again. The Dolphins have a large fan base here, the Giants are quite popular and for a lot of people curiosity will have led to them getting a ticket - first ever proper game and all that!

When the teams are announced - we shoulf see what the interest is.

At Fenay Lodge we can accomodate about 10 easily - just think Argos and airbeds !!!

The Ravens will not be coming to England/Scotland/Wales next season.

Various details have been released on our Conference Championship program by the head honcho of the NFL in the UK:

    In negotiations with three venues:
    - Wembley (though lots of not too subtle hints that it won't be there this year).
    - Cardiff - Millenium Stadium (Roof, so no rain issues with last year but I remember the turf being similarly awful there as in London).
    - Edinburgh - Murrayfield (Gets leverage because of how Scotland was treated with the Claymores)

    Teams:
    - The home team will be one of the Seahawks, the Buccaneers, the Chiefs or the Saints.

The Ravens don't play any of these four on the road this season.

The potential games next season (Kirkwood mentioned it will be an inter-conference game again):

KC vs TB, KC vs NO,
SEA vs NE, SEA vs NYJ,
NO vs OAK, NO vs SD,
TB vs OAK, TB vs SD

Thanks for the inside info Ben. I have a funny feeling that the one game you have listed with the initials "NE" could be the game the UK folks are pulling for. I also think the NFL would want to showcase this years Superbowl winners (since nobody is giving the Giants a chance in hell).
Gimme the points and the Big Blue "D".

The Superbowl pointspread opened at the Patriots -14, but heavy wagering action on the NY Giants has seen the betting line drop down to 13 points at most online sportsbooks.

Right on Mista T - getting an away game is a must when our turn comes, but every fan will want that for their team. It won't be us so lets worry 'bout it another day.

Many fans will not want to come to the UK if the game is not in London - seems that's all there is to this 'Fair Isle' other than Scotland. Teams and venue will have a big impact on ticket availablity.

Last time the Ravens had a bye week, I not so sure that I could sit watching KC with a cold 'tomato ketchup' beer whilst knowing WE have just kicked-off at M&T.

Strongest rumour seems to be Oakland at New Orleans to be played in Cardiff.

We'll know teams, date and venue next week.

Well then that seems like a worthy matchup to travel to Wales for.Not.
I have a feeling that Cardiff as a venue and those two teams. Will leave the NFL with egg on their faces.

On another note, for anyone who decides to get NFL Fieldpass radio. Don't bother you cannot shut it down online you have to phone an american number where you are put on hold for 25 minutes.

I emailed the UK NFL guy Hank, and he gave me the Real UK Customer support number. And even he had trouble closing his account.Where as they used to have silence during timeouts. They now play the same 5 United Way adverts over and over again on a loop during every time out.It drives you freaking crazy.

The NFL chooses some strange bed fellows.Seems like image isn't all that important to them after all.
Put the smile back on your face. This is a 60 minute ball game.

Do we want it to fail financially?
