Re: Gillmore moving to OL
Shouldn't this thread be entitled "Gillmore moving us to LOL"?

Re: Gillmore moving to OL
Guessing he figures, given his injuries, that moving to OL would somehow reduce his exposure to more/the same injuries?!??
Not sure, if that's the case, but he wasn't likely to get more than a non-guaranteed, one-year, prove it, minimum salaried deal, so I'd expect a team would be willing to take a flyer on him to see if he can make the transition.

Which O-line position would work for him? RT?

Re: Gillmore moving to OL
I really don't get it (?) Gillmore is already 26 (27 in November), would need to add about 40 lbs, and I don't know if he ever played on the O-line. The Ravens are TE needy, and if he's healthy, why not give that in which you know another shot? Seems like grasping at straws to me... Bc

This is very interesting. On a side note, on a different level, I know the Iowa Hawkeyes have recruited some "overweight" tight ends and converted them to linemen.

Re: Gillmore moving to OL
This sort of thing has a long history. In the early to mid 1950s Weeb Ewbank converted two tight ends to Guard: Art Spinney and Alex Sandusky. (Baltimore Colts, for the kiddies.) Spinney became an all-pro Sandusky became a good starter, both staples of the offensive line for years.
That initiative came from Ewbank. I assume Gillmore decided this on his own, but maybe there is coach/trainer/physician input, too. Gillmore has also seen how Maxx has not come back 100% (yet) from his injury and is not getting up the field the way he could before. Food for thought for him, perhaps.
I have always liked Gillmore and hope it works out for him."Flacco is driving the ball in that wind....."
