Re: The Obama's Portraits
Here is a breakdown of the Obama picture. Among other things, it appears the artist gave Obama 6 fingers(or 5 fingers and no thumb).

Re: The Obama's Portraits
I think the portraits themselves look good. Not sure about the background in President Obama’s portrait though. Would be interested in hearing what was the motivation behind that background. I think the First Lady’s portrait looks good too. The first time I saw it, it reminded me of a portrait of Beyoncé though. I wonder if that was the look the artist was going for?

Re: The Obama's Portraits
The best critique I have heard on Michelle's portrait is that it's flat. There is no depth provided by shades of color. It's all one color. It looks flat. Whereas you use various shades for coloring and shadow you get depth and more 3D look.

Re: The Obama's Portraits
I would say that's just a stylistic choice considering the artist has shown the capability of shading in other work. If one does not enjoy a stylistic choice, that's fine, but critiquing it on grounds of demonstrating a lack ability in the artist when the artist has demonstrated otherwise in the past is one of the few times one can be wrong when judging art.
It should also be mentioned that there is shading in the portrait. There is shading on her face and her arms. I guess the critique could be referring to the background and the subject being on the same plane, but again, stylistic choice.

Re: The Obama's Portraits
I think on first glance they both look great. I tend to prefer non-traditional portraits though.
Haven't had much time to consider what the work might be saying artistically. I suppose, shooting from the hip, one could consider placing Obama within the foliage (perhaps ivy?) a nod to his environmental efforts. I'm sure the flowers have significance as well. I think the white flowers could be jasmine, what we in Hawaii call pikake, which is pretty big in the use of lei making.
The other flowers are probably relevant to other periods in his life.

I'm just going to have some fun hanging out with you, buddy. At this point I have to assume you are a Mod or an Admin having some fun with us. That was really funny. Was she getting spanked or does she end up beheaded like the other white women in this fantasy? Yuk yuk, good times.
