This is kind of where my head's at as well.

I remember getting knocked around when I was a kid playing ball. I just wanted to keep playing. My coaches or parents didn't know enough (no one really did back then) to see the signs of concussion.

As a matter of fact, a concussion is what caused me to stop playing in college. This was in 2001-2002. That shit was bad. I had some legitimate short term memory issues (forget homework...forget my phone number...) and I also had my vision impaired.

When I was at the neurologist, we started talking about my playing days in high school and in pop warner. Based on some of the things we discussed, the doctor was pretty convinced that I had been concussed several times within a few year span and was never treated for any of them.

I can remember one specific time when I blacked out on the field. It was my senior year in high school and we were playing Hereford in the state playoffs. We were massive underdogs and there was no way we were going to win. Hereford boys are BIG. I got hit with a cutback block - dude knocked my fucking block off. I blacked out for a second or two and when I came to, I remember laying on the ground watching the kid run to the end zone. I was seeing stars, for real.

I got up and jogged off the field.

My head coach said "You ok? Get your bells rung? Get back out there we need a stop."

I ended up finishing the game. So, that was November 2000 and my last slobber knocker was in September 2001 at college.

That's too damned funny. Forgot all about that episode.

Never was concussed from sports, but my wife and I both picked one up in a car accident almost 4 years ago and my wife still has some balance and cognitive issues from it.
