With the schedule we have , anything less than the playoffs is a unacceptable.

Lamar Jackson is a flashy pick, but I am not sure if his game would translate well to the NFL. Speaking of NC State, we should consider someone like Ryan Finley in a lower round -- experienced, great decision maker, and cool as Joe under pressure. Their system seems to produce NFL caliber QB talent better than many other schools (Rivers, Wilson, Brissett, Glennon).

Philip Rivers played under Chuck Amato, Russell Wilson and Mike Glennon played under Tom O'Brien, and while Brissett played under Doeren, his OC was Matt Canada, not the current guy. There's very little common thread in the systems.

Lets just hope Jacksom falls to us. He could sit for a year like Mahoomes and then we could cut Joe the next year or trade him for a 2nd!

I'd be shocked if we don't have the opportunity to draft Jackson. I'd be reasonably surprised if he doesn't fall to our 2nd rounder.

None of the systems have been the type that produce QBs with gaudy stats, but without NFL style offense skills (spread/pistol/option).

Absolutely nothing wrong with spread offenses for QB prospects.

Ok, yes, the NFL has been using spread offense concepts more and more. But I think some of that is to allow young QBs to stay in their comfort zones.

Back to the point, I am not denying Lamar Jackson is an exciting QB prospect, but I think he's too quick to rely on his legs to make plays, especially under pressure. I prefer mobile QBs that, even when they run, keep looking to pass downfield rather than tuck and go.

I'm not advocating Lamar Jackson in the least. I just think there's absolutely no validity to "None of the systems have been the type that produce QBs with gaudy stats, but without NFL style offense skills (spread/pistol/option)."

The implication is that QBs in the spread and pistol lack NFL skills, or that somehow those systems are inferior. NFL teams use spread concepts mostly because they work, Tom Brady plays in a spread. Aaron Rodgers plays in a spread. 6 of the top 10 QBs in total QBR came from spread systems in college.
