    McNair to the IR....

McNair is going on IR to have surgery to repair a rotator cuff. Troy Smith is our new back up and Rhys Lloyd was signed off the PS.

Steve McNair will have surgery to repair a partially torn rotator cuff tomorrow, ending a disappointing season for the Ravens' quarterback.

The Ravens will place McNair on injured reserve at 4 p.m. today and sign kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd off the practice squad.

Kyle Boller will make his third straight start for the Ravens tonight when they play the undefeated New England Patriots. Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith is the backup quarterback.

We'll probably need Lloyd's kickoffs tonight, with the wind.

Because Boller and Smith are the only quarterbacks on the roster, the Ravens likely will sign another one this week.
Drew Olsen? Who else out there is familiar with Brian Billicks system?

Even though Olsen is on the SF PS I wouldn't be surprised if they signed him to the active roster. Or you have Cullen Finnerty who was in camp with us.

Hopefully, that's the last that we'll see of McNair in a Ravens uniform, and some of the $$$$ wasted on his outlandish contract can be put to better use!

Hope Mcnair gets well soon, and hope the Ravens and McNair can now part ways. This whole thing of Steve coming to the Ravens just didn't work and won't work out.

    Steve enjoy your retirement

I'm not sure how you can say 13-3 didn't work out. Yes he sucked in the playoff game but there were games where his play got us a win. This year is a totally different story.

Agreed -- until the playoff game, he was very good. He was good for one year. This year, as Bez said, was a different story.

And as Mista T has said on more than one occasion, the FO overpaid for McNair in a ridiculous way. I'm glad we picked him up, but we paid him way too much. Who were we competing against? It's not like there were teams lining up to sign him. It was an unusually bad move by the FO -- not signing him, because I was all for that, but we paid him far more than he deserved.

But having said that, I'm not blaming McNair -- the FO offered him that contract, so wouldn't he take it?

So does this mean McNair gets another chance next season if he's healed up? Will there be an open competition for the starting QB spot? Does this mean we are stuck watching Boller play?
