FOXBORO - The Baltimore Colts didn’t want Bill Belichick. Or, rather, tight-fisted general manager Joe Thomas didn’t want to pay him. Horrified by the 23-year-old Belichick’s outrageous salary demand - a mere $4,000 per year in 1976 money - Thomas put his foot down.
