Punt Returner
I'm interested in hearing anything
Know we are looking for one and that a number of signees will be given the opportunity to show something
Jalen Hill CB South Alabama, had 6 ints and 181 return yards last year
The INTs says he doesn't have bricks for hands, and the 30yd return average says he has some elusiveness .... doubt we have room on the 53 for another CB, but if he can shine on PR
Same with WR Aaron Bailey, Northern Iowa ... who like Keenan Reynolds is transitioning to WR from college QB
He ran for 25 TDs the last 2 years .... another one that I'm certain will be looked at as a PR
I'll be shocked if Taquan Mizzell is not tried there in practice/OTAs
Here is part of what I wrote in another thread
What I'm interested in this early is clean/smooth catches ....or bobbles and muffs
I'm sure a number of UDFA were brought in to look at that area.
And I'm sure we have seen players in the past years released early and others signed because they had no real ability to do that.
What the FO is hoping for is a BJ Sams ... undrafted in 2004, made the team as a CB/WR/RB/Return specialist (how is that for a mouthful?) he had 4 rushes for 19yds, 1 reception for 2 yards, 59 KO returns for 1,251 yards and 55 punt returns for 575 yards (10.1 avg) ... and 2 defensive tackles.
5 fumbles losing 2.
We can talk about Tim White, and Quincy Adeboyejo, Bell and Board, and Patrick and Mayle, Carlos Davis, Daniel Robertson, Otha Foster
and if anyone start showing ability to cleanly handle punts, then they will last for the pre-season trial under game pressure to see if they can handle that.
Hopefully they are better than Lamont Brightful CB who returned KO and some PR in 2002at one point of my life I was exactly Pi years old

Re: Punt Returner
You've named the ones that would make the most sense; also wouldn't shock me if they use Webb to fair catch punts

Re: Punt Returner
While I don't see a reason to bring in guys that are unproven, because we already have Moore, Reynolds, and Camp, I do agree we need a returner. I have been advocating to bring in a specialist just to return kicks, it can make all the difference on ST. I really wanted Jakeem Grant last year. But all those guys seem like guys we already have.

Re: Punt Returner
I wish they'd bring Will Likely in for a look. Very small but tough and did pretty well for the Terps as a PR.

Re: Punt Returner
Keenan Reynolds was seen as a RS/gadget type guy coming out of college as well. He might get the first crack at it. Chris Moore has some experience at KR in college, so he might be in the mix as well.
They always have Webb if they want to play conservative and rack up plenty of fair catches.

Re: Punt Returner
Like I said in another thread, I think the guy who flashes some innate ability as returner is Tim White.
Great speed, a track guy, quickness and doesn't hesitate.

Camp and Webb will both be in the mix

Re: Punt Returner
Saw you post that and that was how I learned to put Tim White in the mix, could have been you for Mizzell also, but I learned of his potential from another post here.
I was adding Aaron Bailey to the mix ... he reads like Keenan Reynolds - college QB turning to WR with a bunch of rushing TDs ... lol this is the first time I can ever remember seeing competition for a practice squad spot before OTAs even started.
Someone else here posted an article on Keenan and the learning curve he encountered (sounds like a WBaldy post), so Aaron is facing the same hurdle without the year experience, so he has to not only be good but a quick learner. And as Bmorecareful says, Keenan probably has the inside track at it to start- but he better show major strides as a WR because we signed Hester and later Kaelin when he was available to PR.
I was trying to get a head start on handicapping the cuts, but with the elimination of the 1st cut-down to 75, some of the cut prediction edge is lost
But still.... something to listen for and follow.
GOTA as usual has the fall-back plan ID'd Webb for the absolute sure-handed fair catch late in a critical spot, and Campahealtho just because he is Campy
OTA punt practice with no contact, doesn't reveal the intestinal fortitude needed, just the sure handedness.
(I just realized that saying intestinal fortitude is a polite way of saying he didn't sh*t himself)
Just putting this out so people like Tony (who asks for questions) has a head start on an area I'm interested in hearing every little bobble in.at one point of my life I was exactly Pi years old

Re: Punt Returner
It's tough because we'd all love someone dynamic for that spot and none of out options seem to be that.
The best idea is to open the spot up and try all the guys that Rxdoxx listed. Hopefully someone really stands out
