I personally don't see a NFL team being successful in Vegas. I, for one, surely don't think of sports when I hear Vegas. I could be wrong, (it happens lol) but I just don't see it working out.
    (1) Ironically, my sister-in-law submitted papers today to increase her food stamps too.
    (2) Seems like Vegas is a "gamble" (no pun intended), but perhaps the Autumn/Winter tourists season will bolster their ticket sales. Some depends on the U.S. economy, but the city population is 574,274 as of 2016. Not great by any means. So nick you may be right, and is it worth a Billion Dollar risk to build a new stadium, etc?

History definitely isn't on their side. Several failed attempts already.

Professional outdoor football has been attempted three times in Las Vegas. The first two attempts, the XFL's Las Vegas Outlaws and the Canadian Football League's Las Vegas Posse, were unsuccessful, with both teams folding after only one season of play. The XFL folded outright, while the Posse were a failure at the box office, part of the CFL's failed U.S. expansion attempt. A third attempt at professional football was begun in the fall of 2009 with the United Football League's Las Vegas Locomotives; however, the franchise and the league folded in 2012.

I do see where NHL will have a team starting in Oct this year.

T-Mobile Arena is also home to the future Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League, which will begin play in October 2017

Maybe if they get the big 4 of sports on the professional level, adding in Baseball and Basketball, then maybe they can become a huge sporting market? Idk...just doesn't seem like the best place for sports.

Info taken from Wikipedia. I know it can be edited by anyone, but there's still some good info on there about pro sports in Vegas.

Don't know the real economics, but from what I've read with other teams and owners wanting more unshared revenues from skyboxes .... Vegas seems ripe for a Skybox haul.
Every major casino will be wanting one, and be comping big spenders .... that area should be no worry.

As to fans in the general seats .... assume other teams fans will be taking long weekends and fill some of them, so maybe a smaller fan base wouldn't be as big a factor

Vegas is the 42nd TV market in the country, which is larger than cities like Buffalo, New Orleans and Jacksonville. I think they will be ok.

Their stadium better be a dome though. One way to make sure that team fails is asking fans to sit in that heat in September.
