Re: The Blown Fourth Quarter Leads Project
The Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals played in Week 5 of the 2009 season. The Ravens entered the fourth quarter down 10-7, but Ray Rice made a spectacular play on a pass from Joe Flacco to give them a 14-10 lead with 6:59 left. However, Carson Palmer would hit Andre Caldwell for a 20 yard TD, with just 22 seconds left on the clock.
The next blown lead came a week later in Minnesota. This was the game that should have been the comeback that put Joe Flacco on the map. The Ravens entered the fourth quarter down 20-10. Favre would hit Visanthe Shiancoe for a 1 yard TD (with 10:08 to go), making the lead 27-10. Flacco hit Mark Clayton on a 32 yard TD pass to cut the lead to 10 with 8:35 left. Ryan Longwell kicked a FG with 6:01 left, making it 30-17. Flacco then hit Derrick Mason for a 12 yard TD pass with 5:12 left to cut the lead to 6. Ray Rice later finished off what should have been one of the best comebacks in team history with a 33 yard run to give Baltimore to give the Ravens their first lead of the game, 31-30, with 3:37 left. However, Ryan Longwell would eventually kick the game winner with 1:56 left.
Week 11 vs Indianpolis was an entertaining game. This was the game of one of Reed's more famous interceptions. This man had the ball to turn his back to Peyton Manning and begin running toward the deep right third, before turning and charging the deep left third, knowing that once Manning saw him vacate at the snap, Manning would try to hit Wayne down the left sideline, and picked the pass off. Manning just left the field shaking his head.
Anyways, the Ravens entered the fourth quarter down 14-12, and with 10:12 left in the game, would take a 15-14 lead with a FG by that guy whose name shall not be mentioned. However, with 7:02 left, a go ahead FG was kicked by a guy we know all too well (RavensWinTitle), and that lead would hold.
Including the divisional round loss to Indianapolis, the Ravens lost 8 games during the 2009 season. 3 were due to blown fourth quarter leads.
Tally: 73 losses, 16 Blown fourth quarter leads
Mattison: 8 losses, 3 blown fourth quarter leads."Please take with you this final sword, The Excellector. I am praying that your journey will be guided by the light", Leon Shore

Re: The Blown Fourth Quarter Leads Project
The Greg Mattison experience continues (I mean, Halloween is almost upon us) in the 2010 season.
Week 2 @ Cincinnati: The Ravens enter the fourth quarter up 9-7, but a FG by he who shall not be mentioned by name, put them up 10-9 with 5:46 left. Mike Nugent would then kick 2 FGs, one leaving 4:34 on the clock and one leaving 2:48 on the clock.
Week 6 @ New England: The Ravens entered the fourth quarter up 17-10, and then added a FG with 14:53 left in the game. A 5 yard TD pass to Branch, would cut the lead to 3 with 11:02 left and Gostkowski would tie the game up with 1:51 left. He would eventually kick the game winner in OT.
Week 10 @ Atlanta: The Thursday night game many of us remember. The Ravens entered the fourth quarter down 13-7. The lead would then be extended via a Matt Ryan TD pass to Roddy White with 11:34 left. Down 20-7, Flacco threw a 6 yard TD pass to Mason with 5:46 to go, and then helped the Ravens get the 21-20 lead off of a 9 yard TD pass to Todd Heap with 1:05 to go. Then, we saw the infamous Roddy White TD (Where Josh Wilson just got treated like a little step-brother, but honestly was trying to hold onto White and wasn't strong enough so I wasn't mad about the no-call), that gave the Falcons the lead back 26-21 with 20 seconds to go.
Week 13 vs. Pittsburgh. The Ravens entered the fourth quarter with a 10-3 lead. Shawn Suisham cut into the lead with 12:46 to go and Isaac Redman put the Steelers ahead for go, with a go-ahead TD, with 2:51 left.
Divisional Round @ Pittsburgh. For those wondering, this one technically doesn't count, because the 14 point lead had already been blown before the 4th quarter arrived. Both teams entered the fourth quarter tied and the Ravens never regained the lead.
Including the Divisional Round Loss to Pittsburgh, the Ravens lost 5 games during the 2010 season. 4 were due to blown fourth quarter leads.
Tally: 78 losses, 20 blown fourth quarter leads
Mattison: 12 losses, 7 blown fourth quarter leads.
2000-2008 (9 years): 13 Blown fourth quarter leads.
Mattison 2009-2010 (2 years): 7 Blown fourth quarter leads.Last edited by The Excellector; 10-25-2016 at 04:37 AM.

Re: The Blown Fourth Quarter Leads Project
The only blown fourth quarter lead of the 2011 season (Chuck Pagano's lone season as Defensive Coordinator) was in the AFC Championship Game. The Ravens entered the fourth quarter up 20-16. Tom Brady would help New England regain the lead on a QB sneak with 11:29 to go.
Including the Conference Championship loss to the Patriots, the Baltimore Ravens lost 5 games during the 2011 season. One was due to a blown fourth quarter lead
Tally: 83 losses, 21 blown fourth quarter leads

Re: The Blown Fourth Quarter Leads Project
2012 was the first year of Dean Pees tenure here as Defensive Coordinator. And it does not get off to a great start.
Week 2 @ Philadelphia: The Ravens and Eagles went into the fourth quarter tied at 17. Justin Tucker kicked one FG with 11:28 left, and another with 4:43 left, extending the lead to 23-17. Michael Vick would then go on to lead the game winning drive and finish it off with a 1 yd TD run, with 1:55 left.
Week 13 @ Pittsburgh: The Ravens entered the fourth quarter with a 20-13 lead. Pittsburgh would tie the game on a 7 yard TD pass from Charlie Batch to Heath Miller, with 7:24 left. Shawn Suisham eventually kicked the game winning FG as time expired in regulation.
Week 14 @ Washington: The Ravens entered the fourth quarter with a 21-20 lead. The lead was extended to 28-20 following a 7 yard run by Ray Rice with 4:47 left. Washington later tied the game on a TD pass from Kirk Cousins to Pierre Garcon, followed by a two point conversion by Cousins on a run (Was this the play where they spread out the defense and just has Cousins do the designed run right up the middle?), with 29 seconds left. In OT, Kai Forbath kicked the FG that ended it (11:37).
Week 17 @ Cincinnati: The Ravens entered the fourth quarter down 13-7. Tyrod Taylor scored on a 1 yard run with 12:50 left, to give the Ravens a 14-13 lead. Josh Brown then kicked a FG with 7:16 left to give the lead back to the Bengals. After a 14 yard pick six by Carlos Dunlap with 6:06, the lead was extended to two possessions.
Thankfully, the Ravens didn't lose anymore that season.
The total amount of loses that season was 6, with 4 due to blown fourth quarter leads.
Tally: 89 losses, 25 Blown fourth quarter leads
Mattison: 12 losses, 7 Blown fourth quarter leads
Pees, 6 losses 4 Blown fourth quarter leads"Please take with you this final sword, The Excellector. I am praying that your journey will be guided by the light", Leon Shore

Re: The Blown Fourth Quarter Leads Project
2013 actually didn't start out as bad as far as this little study is concerned. The first loss due to a blown fourth quarter lead didn't occur until Week 11.
Week 11@ Chicago: The Ravens entered the fourth quarter with a 17-13 lead. Matt Forte turned that around with 10:33 left in the fourth quarter, after catching a 14 yard TD pass from Josh McCown. Justin Tucker actually tied the game up with 3 seconds left and the game went to overtime, where Robbie Gould ended it (8:41).
And that was the only one for the year.
Tally: 97 losses, 26 Blown fourth quarter leads
Mattison: 12 losses, 7 Blown fourth quarter leads
Pees: 14 losses, 5 Blown fourth quarter leads."Please take with you this final sword, The Excellector. I am praying that your journey will be guided by the light", Leon Shore

Re: The Blown Fourth Quarter Leads Project
2014:
Week 1 vs. Cincinnati: Everyone probably remembers this as the FIRST game where Dean Pees decided to not only leave AJ Green single covered late in the fourth, but not even put his best CB on him, AND give him a free release. The Ravens entered the fourth quarter down 15-7. Justin Tucker cut into the lead with 10:28 yet and the Ravens took the lead on a 80 yard TD pass from Flacco to Steve Smith Sr with 5:46 left. They tried a 2 point conversion, but it failed, making it only a one point lead. That didn't come to matter, as we all know what AJ Green then did, with 4:58 left.
Week 8 @ Cincinnati: The Ravens entered the fourth quarter down 17-14. A Mike Nugent FG then extended the lead with 11:24 left. An 8 yard run by Lorenzo Taliaferro (6:31 left) gave Baltimore the 21-20 lead and they added a Justin Tucker FG with 3:59 left. Andy Dalton eventually led the game winning drive and finished it off with a 1 yard TD run (A sneak if I remember correctly), with just 57 seconds left.
Week 13 vs San Diego: The Ravens entered the fourth quarter up 23-13. A 14 yard run by Ryan Matthews cut the lead to 3 with 13:12 left. Flacco responded with a 1 yard run to put the lead back out the 10, with 6:13 left. Philip Rivers came back with a 23 yard TD pass to Keenan Allen, cutting the lead back to 3 with 3:40 left. With 2:22 left, Justin Tucker made a FG to put the lead back out the 6, but with 38 seconds left, Eddie Royal caught a 1 yard pass from Philip Rivers, to put San Diego up 34-33.
Divisional Round @ New England: The crazy thing about this game is that both 14 point leads were blown before the fourth quarter even got there. The teams went into the fourth quarter tied. With 10:17 left, Justin Tucker gave the Ravens their third lead of the game. However, as we all remember, with 5:13 left in the game, Brady hit LaFell from 23 yards out for the game winning TD.
Including the Divisional Round loss to the Patriots, the Ravens lost 7 games in 2014, with 4 due to blown fourth quarter leads.
Tally: 104 losses, 30 blown fourth quarter leads
Mattison: 12 losses, 7 Blown fourth quarter leads
Pees: 21 losses, 9 Blown fourth quarter leads"Please take with you this final sword, The Excellector. I am praying that your journey will be guided by the light", Leon Shore

Re: The Blown Fourth Quarter Leads Project
2015:
Week 2 @ Oakland: The Ravens entered the fourth quarter down 30-20. Justin Tucker cut the lead to 7 with 13:37 left. Lorenzo Taliaferro tied the game on a 7 yard run with 7:03 left. Justin Tucker then gave the Ravens the lead with 2:10 left. However, the Raider prevailed after Derek Carr threw the game winning pass to Seth Roberts (12 yards) with 26 seconds left.
Week 3 @ Cincinnati: This, Ladies and Gentlemen, was the SECOND game where Dean Pees decided not to double cover AJ Green late in the fourth quarter. The Ravens entered the fourth quarter down 14-7. Justin Tucker cut the lead to 4 with 13:27 left. CJ Mosley then recovered a fumble for a 41 yard TD (6:49 left). Then comes the yearly AJ Green 80 yard TD, to give the Bengals the lead back with 6:37 left. The Flacco/Smith Sr. connection once again got the lead back, much like the year before, this time with 3:56 left. However, AJ Green would strike again. This time from 7 yards out with 2:10 left.
Week 5 @ Cleveland: The Ravens entered the fourth quarter with a 21-16 lead. An 18 yard TD pass from Josh McCown to Gary Barnidge, with 12:23 left. A 1 yard run by Justin Forsett helped Baltimore regain the lead with 5:56 left (A 2 point conversion failed). A 22 yard pass from Josh McCown to Isaiah Crowell, followed by a two point conversion to Andrew Hawkins, gave the Browns the lead again with 3:03 left. Justin Tucker tied the game up with 25 seconds left, and the Browns won the game in OT with a Travis Coons FG (6:43).
Week 10 vs. Jacksonville: The Ravens entered the fourth quarter with a 14-13 lead. A 15 yard pass to Allen Robinson gave the Jaguars a 19-14 lead, because the two point conversion failed, with 13:01 left. Flacco threw a 14 yard TD pass to Chris Givens, giving the lead back to Baltimore with 7:30 left. Jason Myers gave Jacksonville the win as time expired.
The Ravens lost 11 games in 2015, and 4 of them were due to blown fourth quarter leads
Tally: 115 losses, 34 blown fourth quarter leads
Mattison: 12 losses, 7 blown fourth quarter leads
Pees: 32 losses, 13 blown fourth quarter leads"Please take with you this final sword, The Excellector. I am praying that your journey will be guided by the light", Leon Shore
