Question...why do we take McGahee out on 3rd down?

We all know he can catch and make things happen in the open field.

I mean I like Musa, but he doesn't really do much in the open field.

I thought that was the main purpose of a 3rd down guy...catch and make plays in open field.

Is it a case of giving McGahee breaks without taking him out on frst and second downs?

Is Willis' conditioning still an issue?

Or is Brian simply out thinking himself?

No...the ideal thrid down back stays in and blocks.

Musa can occassionally catch a pass but its usually on 3rd downs after he releases out of the shot gun set. He normally stays in and blocks for at least one second or so before releasing to the flat, where sure as the sky is blue McNair will throw to on thrid down.

See, having a back in on 3rd down who is excellent at catching passes and is tough to bring down in space is a revolutionary concept that the Billick offense hasn't been able to grasp just yet

Wait what?? A 2 back shotgun formation? Why, whatever makes you think Billick knows how to run a play from that?

Come on now, next you'll be telling me they invented the wheel.

Ya think we should get BB watching a bit of college football.
And buy him some blank DVD's to put the new plays onto.

I think they feel more comfortable with Musa knowing the protections, and they don't want to leave the QB out to dry with someone looking the wrong direction to block.

Who knows? If we would have run more this year, we would have had 2 or 3 more wins.

I for one am all for a two back system, look at the backs who get the brunt of the yardage, they dont last long in this league, Larry Johnson comes to mind.

You want risk McGahee blocking? Isnt this why he got a concussion?

No, Mcgahee got a concussion because he plays football not because he had to pass block.

McGahee sometimes asks to come out, especially after he's carried the ball a couple of times.
