Re: 2017 Draft Thread -- because we have an unhealthy obsession
Might as well have some fun on an early Sunday morning.
Mock simulator, composite board (4/20)
1. CLE - Myles Garrett
2. SF - Mitchell Trubisky
3. CHI - Solomon Thomas
4. JAX - Malik Hooker
5. TEN - Mike Williams
6. NYJ - Jamal Adams
7. LAC - Jonathan Allen
8. CAR - Leonard Fournette
9. CIN - Derek Barnett
10. BUF - O.J. Howard
11. NO - Marshon Lattimore
12. CLE - Deshaun Watson
13. ARZ - Corey Davis
14. PHI - David Njoku
15. IND - Haason Reddick
This is a reasonable mock that leaves an interesting board at 16. What would you do? Names available include Ross, McCaffrey, Foster, Conley, and Lamp.
I went with John Ross and here's how it broke down:
16. John Ross, WR - Washington
47. Charles Harris, EDGE - Missouri (over Kevin King, Evan Engram, Adoree' Jackson)
74. Pat Elflein, C - Ohio St (over Cooper Kupp, Chris Godwin, Dorian Johnson, Dion Dawkins)
78. Dorian Johnson, G - Pittsburgh (completing zone-gap blocking overhaul, w/ Alex Lewis to RT)
122. Samaje Perine, RB - Oklahoma (over Dawuane Smoot, Ardarius Stewart, Julie'n Davenport)
159. Jourdan Lewis, CB - Michigan (over Jalen Myrick)
186. Kenny Golladay, WR - Northern Illinois (over... um... people)

Re: 2017 Draft Thread -- because we have an unhealthy obsession
Thanks for a good-natured contribution. Not a bad haul. I would have taken McCaffrey at #16 or traded back no farther than Denver at #20 to take the best of McCaffrey, Lamp, Conley, Watt. I much prefer Dawkins to Elflein but would take Elflein at #78. If I had not taken a receiver in the first round, then I would have wanted Godwin at #74.
Isn't J Lewis a woman beater? If so, not on my board. Admit I am not familiar with the details.
A fun mock, well presented."Flacco is driving the ball in that wind....."

Re: 2017 Draft Thread -- because we have an unhealthy obsession
My ideal finish to the offseason:
Draft:
1) Corey Davis
2) Tyus Bowser / Derek Rivers
3) Pat Effelein
3) Caleb Brantler
TRADE 4th rounder for Jordan Matthews
5) Adam Bisnowaty
6) Jaylon Brown
SIGN Austin Pasztor
Holes:
WR - Corey Davis and Jordan Matthews
C - Efflein (to compete with Jensen and Urschel)
OT - Pasztor and Bisnowaty compete for RT
Pass rush - Derek Rivers/Tyus Bowser
DT - Caleb Brantley replaces Jernigan. People have Brantley falling for some reason so this is a typical "Ravens get a falling player" pick.
ILB - Correa will have to fill Orr's void, but Brown isa good coverage LB who can play ST"Cause if you ain’t pissed off for greatness, that just means you’re okay with being mediocre, and ain’t no man in here okay with just basic.”

Re: 2017 Draft Thread -- because we have an unhealthy obsession
A thoughtful selection with really good talent in the top four picks.
I do not like the omission of a DB. This draft is supposed to be strong in DBs and we have no adequate replacements for our two outside CBs. Carr is getting old and Jimmy Smith is also no longer at the top of his prime and is somewhat injury prone. We should get a good one now so that we have both good depth at these two positions in 2017 and it is not a crisis draft need in 2018. We should draft a DB this year, and probably next year, too. The guy we draft this year may well have to start in 2018 and we want him to be ready.
I like Matthews in a vacuum but I don't like him if we are getting Davis. Wallace, Perriman and Davis are going to be screaming for the ball and there will not be enough targets to go around if we add Matthews. Secondarily, I don't like the unnecessary cap hit. I would save the Matthews money, along with Watson-Pitta money and sign Mangold, or just save it for a better opportunity. Still like Eflein with Mangold."Flacco is driving the ball in that wind....."

Re: 2017 Draft Thread -- because we have an unhealthy obsession
ESPN New York's Rich Cimini is "pretty sure" the Jets will take LSU S Jamal Adams at No. 6 overall, "unless someone else is unexpectedly available."
There's no telling who that "someone else" is, but it sounds like Adams is squarely in the Jets' crosshairs. The Jets appear to be proactively tanking the 2017 season, and their first-round draft approach may be to secure a high-floor asset who's less likely than other prospects to miss. Adams checks that box as a quality pass and run defender who would immediately start for Gang Green.

Re: 2017 Draft Thread -- because we have an unhealthy obsession
6-of-16 NFL scouts polled by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel voted Clemson's Deshaun Watson this year's top draft-eligible quarterback.
5-of-16 personnel men polled named Patrick Mahomes this year's top signal caller, while Mitchell Trubisky garnered four first-place votes and DeShone Kizer received the final nod. In the Journal-Sentinel's "points" system based on the scouts' rankings, Cal's Davis Webb came in fifth, Pittsburgh's Nate Peterman finished sixth, Iowa's C.J. Beathard came in seventh, and Virginia Tech's Jerod Evans placed eighth. "I really don’t like any of them," one longtime executive said. "Maybe two will go in the first round because of need but they all have holes. It’s, like, ‘Let’s see if we can develop them and get something out of them.’ It’s one of the worst groups I’ve watched in a long time."
