Re: ESPN Article on LA Move and the Owners

Skimmed over article and didn't see any mention of Mike Brown, although I heard he was against the move.

What I got out of the article is St Louis fans were fucked years ago and didn't even know it. Likewise, their plan to keep the Rams was wasted time and money on their part.

LA does not deserve the NFL, ridiculous!

For such an incompetent owner, Jerry sure has a lot of influence on decisions that have no direct influence on his own franchise.

Why not?? LA supports two NBA franchises, two MLB teams, and a hockey (!) team.

That was pretty clear from the get go. When the guy that owns the team wants to move it, it doesn't matter what the city and fans want. It's his team

Re: ESPN Article on LA Move and the Owners

Great article! If the account is true, then I take away from the article that Jerry Jones is the smartest man among the owners, with a possible assist from the Biscuit. J.J. did not get his way by being more powerful than the others but rather by outsmarting them.

    Key passage is:

Initially, four resolutions were going to be considered for a vote. But Steve Bisciotti, the Ravens' owner, argued that the proposals conflicted with one another. And so the owners agreed to consider only two: the Rams-Chargers to Inglewood and Chargers-Raiders in Carson, pitting a version of Jerry Jones' proposal against Carson. When the first secret ballot for relocation was tallied, the Rams-Chargers in Inglewood won by a whopping 21-11 vote.
The way the final vote was packaged it was either Rams-Chargers to Inglewood or Raiders-Chargers to Carson. Spanos is universally liked; it would have been very hard for a plan to win in which the Chargers got screwed. But they get taken out of the equation, since they were given free reign to move regardless.

So essentially it was either screw the Rams or screw the Raiders. The owner of the Raiders is the son of an individual universally disliked by the other owners. Plus, his sole source of income is the team, so he was not gonna be able to finance the Carson effort. The owner of the Rams has huge pockets of dough but most importantly, is not related to Al Davis.

Given only these two choices, which according to the article Bisciotti helped assure, the outcome was obvious.

J.J. was playing chess while the others were playing checkers.

Exactly. Fans show up to the game with signs to keep the Rams while city officials hold meetings and put together a plan. Meanwhile, the owner has already made his mind up year ago. Really shows how the fans are just fucked in every possible way be 32 rich guys. Yet none of us can wait for the draft, training camp, preseason and the regular season. All I can say is we love the game of football, not the men that own the teams.
