    Re: Coaching Carousel

I recorded and watched most of the Dolphins/Jets game yesterday morning. Jets played hard and fast. Some of the Phins manned up but overall they looked much less interested.
Todd Bowles might prove to be a burnout Jerry Glanville-type coach, but right now he looks like a big-time hire. They could easily compete in what Billick refers to as the 'AFC Wild Card Division'. Wouldn't it be ironic if they knock out the Bills & Rex! They play @ Jersey Thursday Night Nov 12 (I think).

    USA Today article on subject.
    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...seat/73663394/
"Prime candidates [to be fired] include Mike Pettine in Cleveland, Lovie Smith in Tampa Bay, Jim Caldwell in Detroit, Gus Bradley in Jacksonville, and Jim Tomsula in San Francisco.
Maybe a long-term guy will be sweating out his job security if things don't change soon: Sean Payton in New Orleans.
Two coaches with experience running college programs, Houston's Bill O'Brien and Philadelphia's Chip Kelly, are on the hot seat right now, at least with the voting public if not with their owners."

O'Brien (Texans) catching mucho heat for QB carousel.
    Caldwell seems to be underachieving.

    Re: Coaching Carousel

*Saints' Sean Payton and Lions' Jim Caldwell both won this weekend but one has to think things are still shaky for them.
*The Andy Reid / Alex Smith team in KC looks doomed. The eternal question, is it lack of talent or poor coaching? The answer is usually, a bit of both. Smith might be an updated Tony Banks, highly regarded but can't win on the field.
*When a coach is canned, the team sometimes quits, with players concentrating on staying in one piece and moving on to greener pastures; or they rally behind the new coach and play better. Dolphins did the latter yesterday, playing with a lot more enthusiasm than I saw the other week. This makes Philbin look that much worse, and Dolphin mgt look better. Let's see if they're still happy in December. This year's Titans are not a bad team for a get-better date.
*Whatever idiots in Indi (ahem Jim Irsay ahem) that want Pagano out got some positive affirmation last night. I wonder if Indi mgt (Irsay ahem) would make an offer to, say, Jim Harbaugh? Despite Saturday's last-minute fluke loss he is really making things happen in East Lansing. He may not be interested in returning to the NFL, at least only a year into this job, but I have to think someone will make him an offer.
*Chip Kelly's name is surfacing for the vacant USC job. If his slide in Iggland continues I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up there.

    Re: Coaching Carousel

    recent Skins history;
The great Joe Gibbs (three Super Bowl rings) managed one playoff win in four years.
Steve Spurrier, who won bowl games with three college teams and one NCAA championship, flopped.
Marty Schottenheimer, who won in Buffalo and Cleveland, couldn't win.
Mike Shanahan, who took the Raiders to the playoffs and won SBs with the Broncos, had one winning season and no playoff wins.

Did all those coaches forget how to coach? or maybe...the owner/management?
watching the skins flop recently makes me think Shanahan should get another HC shot.

Payton is going to be out
It would not surprise me if ownership lost patience with Caldwell and his status, which could be up in the air, may be joined by the status of Matthew Stafford
One issue in KC is that the style of WCO they run requires WRs that can get open quick and gain YAC. They don't have that. For a couple of years, they barely had guys that could catch the ball. That's how they blew the playoff game at Indianapolis.

pretty bad you can't get a td after first and goal from the three.
