Half way through Preseason 53-man Roster guesses.....

My best guess at this point:

QB (3) - McNair, Boller, St. Pierre
RB (3) - Jamal, Anderson, Smith
    FB (2) - Green, Mughelli
WR (4) - Mason, Clayton, Williams, DVD
TE (3) - Heap, Wilcox, Sypniewski
OL (9) - Ogden, Mulilato, Flynn, Vincent, Pashos, Terry, Brown, Chester, Droege

DE (4) - Pryce, Suggs, Johnson, Stills
DT (5) - Ngata, Gregg, Bannan, Edwards, Franklin
LB (6) - Ray, AD, Scott, Cody, Smith, Johnson/Haley
CB (6) - CMac, Rolle, Ivy, Oglesby, Pittman, Purde
    S (4) - Reed, Sapp, Landry, Ward

ST (4) - Stover, Koch, Katula, Sams

    IR: Rimpf

    PUP: Moore

PS: Daniels, Martin, LaTendresse, Ross, Olsen, LaCasse, Contrell

I don't think we can go with 4 WRs. The 5th will be Moore (off the PUP) or TLT. No way Droege should be on this team. Tough pick between Daniels and Ross to make the team. I don't think either one will last long on the PS.

Well, I sort of have him there by default. Assuming Rimpf goes on IR, I would still think they would carry 9 OL. If so, then who is next? I could see Szalay, but that would still leave them with only 3 OTs versus 6 interior guys. That ratio should be 4OTs/5 interior guys. As such, I would think the 9th guy would be an OT, so it's Droege or Kracalik. :(

Probably not, but with Musa's emergence, I think they get lost in the numbers game - unless Ross beats out Sams.

I think if Rimpf is IR'ed, we'll pick up a vet, or sign Marques Ogden...even Preston says he's looking better in his workouts.

QB (3) - McNair, Boller, St. Pierre
RB (4) - Jamal, Anderson, Smith, Ross
    FB (1) - Green
WR (5) - Mason, Clayton, Williams, DVD, Moore
TE (3) - Heap, Wilcox, Sypniewski
OL (9) - Ogden, Mulilato, Flynn, Vincent, Pashos, Terry, Brown, Chester, M. Ogden (I think he gets signed if Rimpf goes IR).

DE (5) - Pryce, Suggs, Johnson, Stills, Haley
DT (5) - Ngata, Gregg, Bannan, Franklin, Edwards
LB (5) - Ray, AD, Scott, Cody, Smith, T. Johnson
CB (4) - CMac, Rolle, Ivy, Prude
    S (4) - Reed, Sapp, Landry, Winborne

ST (5) - Stover, Elling, Katula, Sams, (Landetta or some vet)

IR: Rimpf, Pittman, Ward, Daniels (somehow)

PS: Daniels, Martin, LaTendresse, Olson, LaCasse, Contrell, Moses, that NFLE exchange player.

    My comments:

Cory Ross is a RB in name only, but he makes this team.
Sam Koch is not the answer as a punter nor a KOS.
    Dwan Edwards latches on.
If Moore does not make the team, Ten Dresses will.
I think Marques Ogden gets signed if Rimpf goes on IR.
Pittman gets buried on the "IR" and somehow, I bet PJ Daniels gets on IR. It wouldn't surprise me if BJ Ward's "migraine" is setting him up for an "IR" placement.

    IR: Daniels (phantom injury)

I know I should put Moore on the Roster and TLT on the Practice Squad because that is more likely than not. However, it's my roster and I want TLT on the team and Moore's vagina off it. So there. :)

    That's 6. :D

One has to go, or you've got to drop someone else.

    PS: ...........that NFLE exchange player.
BTW, does anyone know if that player is going to count as one of the 8 PS players, or is he going to be considered as a exempt or 9th PS player?

My bad. Haley has to go. Tim Johnson will make this team. He looks good on ST. Haley may be a Practice Squader unless he is not eligible.

A few comments on some of the lists posted:

    1. There is no way Mughelli does not make the team. He is a ST beast and a decent fullback. Justin Green is not a "classic fullback" and we need at least one. Therefor I think both Green and Ovie make the team.

    2. I think the only way Ross makes the team is if he somehow proves that he can take over for Sams as PR and KR. From what I have seen though I would find a way to keep him on the team. I don't think PJ is going to make it due to the numbers game.

    3. Whether he deserves it or not Koch will be the punter. Araguz is not any beter than him but Koch is younger and a draft pick, therefor he gets the nod over Araguz. It would be real nice if Koch could do KO duties so we can open up another roster spot and not keep a KO specialist like Elling. Although Elling has been doing a great job, I hate giving up that roster spot!

    4. As for the WRs, I don't think there is anyway we can't go with 4 WRs. DVD has a good lead in the 4th receiver race over Moore. I think this may signal the end of the Raven's fascination of Moore.

    My retort:

    1. Don't forget that we are moving away from the Alan Ricard-one dimensional-type FB. Ovie does play well on STs, but so does Justin Green. Daniel Wilcox will play some H-Back, and we have Mike Anderson who can play some at FB. It was mentioned on the show last night that only Green or Ovie will make the club. I think Ovie is the odd man out due to his poor hands out of the backfield. Winner of Justin vs. Ovie is Justin Green.

    2. Ross is going to make this team, because of his special teams play. I could see a scenario where we line both Ross and Sams back there in the same fashion we did with Deion and Sams. Plus, Ross has done more while on offense. He probably would just be in there for run arounds, etc, but he has gotten ome good yardage for us. Cory Ross makes this team. He'll back up BJ Sams as KR/PR as well as be our 4th RB.

    3. After two games, Sam Koch still has not shown much. What good does it to boom punts in practice and muff punts during games. Even his KOs were falling at the 10 yard line. Elling will make the team as he's been impressive at KO. I see us signing a veteran punter like Richardson or Landeta. We can try again for a young punter in next year's draft.

    4. Considering the talent we have at TE, and Quinn's surprising good hands, I could see us carrying only carrying 4 WRs, but with Clayton's hamstring, we should carry a 5th WR just in case. The top four WRs are established. I think Moore is done here unless he really blows up next week. I still say that Ten Dresses makes this team if we carry 5 WRs. If he does not make it, then we carry four WRs.
    It's a new season! It's a new day!

I understand what you are saying, but there are also times that we are going to need a lead-blocking FB - goalline and short yardage - and neither Green nor Anderson fit that mold.

If Mughelli was only so-so on special teams, then maybe I would agree, but he is one of our better ST players and our only true "lead FB". As such, I think he has to make the team.

I think they'd like to have Ross around, but you can not carry 2 guys who are basically just returners. They clearly are attempting to get away from carrying too many specialist because it limits your depth.

Also, remember that a team can only carry 45 active players on gameday, so it's unlikely that they would have 4 active RBs or 2 active KRs. As such, it's sort of a wasted roster spot - when he could be on the PS in case of injury - as opposed to someone who could help more at another position if needed - DB or OL.

I'll agree that, at this point, this is a close one, so I guess they could carry Ross as the 4th RB, at the expense of a 9th OL or a 6th CB (from my example).
