    Old Interviews on WNST

Nestor has been running old programming. VERY old programming. Like interviews with Ted Marchibroda and Art Modell.

Of particular interest was a post-draft show he did with the Ravens scouting staff in 2003. They talked a lot about exactly what was happening while Minnesota was neglecting to make their pick, and how happy they were to have Suggs fall into their lap.

Most interesting though, was the assessment of Boller. Phil Savage said that if Boller was in college one more year, he would be the top QB of the next draft (above Eli.) The scout who scouted Boller (I'm pretty sure it was T.J. McCreight) said, and I quote, "Baltimore didn't get John Elway in 1983, but they got John Elway now." McCreight was actually PROMOTED two months after making this statement.

It slays me that some people still regurgitate the Mike Preston legend that it was Brian Billick who drafted Kyle Boller.

It's funny how things work out in football. Like if that's to be believed, Boller stays in school, the Ravens get Suggs, keep their 1st rounder in 2004...then in 2004, Boller goes first to the Chargers, the Giants get Eli, the Steelers get Rivers, and the Ravens, still needing a QB, end up with Ben. And in that scenario they probably end up with multiple championships over the past decade.

It is fun to play the what-if game. If Boller wasn't there in '03, would we have done more to move up and get Leftwich?

And where would we have been picking in 2004? Without Boller, would Anthony Wright have gotten us to 10-6 by himself? If so, we would have picked around 20. So would a QB-needy team like Miami, Tampa, or Buffalo have grabbed Ben ahead of us?
