UFA Watch 2015 - TE Jordan Cameron
So, I'm sitting at work pondering how much I don't want Torrey Smith back. I can't possibly see him accepting what most of us believe he is worth (the right player, right price mantra). He has some decent statistics that his agent will levy some crap team with lots of cap space into paying.
So, I believe it's time to look at other options in FA.
What I would like to see in this case is to invest in a TE like Jordan Cameron who I believe will get a similar contract as Torrey (7-8/season)
His injury will hurt his value, but when he's healthy he's a top 10 TE. I believe it would be a better investment and then it would be time to rely on Aiken, Brown, Campy and hopefully an early round draft pick.
Thoughts? Criticism? Praise? Asshole snarky comments?

With our salary cap being what it'll be (terrible) I don't think we'll have the room to sign anybody at that price range.
I'd love to have the guy here. He puts us in a top 10 offense but we can't afford him."A moron, a rapist, and a Pittsburgh Steeler walk into a bar. He sits down and says, “Hi I’m Ben may I have a drink please?”

Thanks for posting this. Cameron is a guy that I would love to target in free agency, at the right price of course. He has a bit of an injury history, but is talented enough where some team may overpay. My hope is the market slow-plays for him and we can swoop in with an offer that is team friendly which he'll accept.

I like the player. I don't love him, but I like him. He would certainly make the club better.
However, these are my filters WRT nabbing a high-priced FAs not our own:
1) Do we have a healthy cap (let's say 12-15%)?
2) Was there consistently poor performance at the position the previous season?
3) Is there is an absence of healthy bodies at the position going into next season?
If all three are 'yes' then will allow myself to think that it's possible."The Ravens are not taking Jimmy Smith at 26!" -- Me, the day before the 2011 Draft
"On their way to the podium, the Ravens FO is going to collectively step over my dead body and select...Breshad Perriman." -- Me, the day before the 2015 Draft

I looked him up in PFF. He ranks 56th overall. He gets a 2.0 for receiving, which is pedestrian. He is below par in pass blocking and outright pathetic in run blocking, -10.5. Yes he would be cheap and we'd get what we pay for. I'd rather take my chances on Supernaw.

don't see it. Bring in a couple of DBs if you're going to pay veterans...

I would also take my chances with Gillmore and Supernaw and the draft for our tight end options. I also think that Aiken, Brown and Campanaro can be "schemed" by Trestman into a viable receiving corps.
Put the money into lock down corners and play agressive Ravens defense and Joe will put enough points on the board with the guys we can currently put on the field to get us to the Superbowl.
The guy who I have a hard time with is Steve Smith. I think if they don't use him as a primary receiver his ego is going to get in the way of his production. If they do use him as a primary receiver to assuage his ego, he's going to have an impact on the development of the other receivers. There are only about 400 (or so completions) to go around on an NFL team during any one season. I'd rather have a lot of guys with 50-70 completions than one or two guys with over 100.

We aren't going to have the cap space.
Guys...it's going to be a lean UFA period...I know nobody wants to accept it, but we aren't going out there and signing big or probably even moderate named guys.
Ozzie has done a good job with small UFA additions and due to the cap, that's likely all we will be able to add.Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.
