Given that this article is from a week ago and its the first I've heard of it, I wouldn't take it very seriously. If this was actually a thing, the big news sites and stations would have picked it up.

There is no way that Congress will be on the hook for the Superbowl being cancelled. They'll get it done, even if it's just a temporary measure in order to have the Superbowl. In contemporary American society, the Superbowl is bigger than anything with the possible exception of Christmas.

No way the Super Bowl get cancelled. Let's call it like it is... You can mess with people's health insurance, taxes, start wars and lie on just about everything and life goes on. You mess with Super Bowl Sunday and all of a sudden the average American who doesn't follow politics is invested in you getting voted out now.
