Here at RSR HQ, we wanted to have some way (other than simple post count, or tenure) of determining which members contribute quality posts to the site .

We have therefore, implemented a reputation system. You will see a green blob under your name. You will also see an icon under each post that lets you add or subtract points from any post (you can't pimp your own posts).

Because this system would seem open to abuse, we have implemented a very cunning algorithm on the giving and taking away of points. Let me just say that it should work really well.

So...f you see a post that you like - that makes you say "Dayum that was some good stuff", give some points to that poster. If you see something stupid, feel free to take some away.

We'll closely track it and make adjustments as necessary. Please don't take it too seriously, it's just something we're playing with. It may or may not become a permanent feature. We may hand out some small rewards like T shirts, hats etc. for the best posters on the forums.

How can I have a reputation level of minus 342, while my sister-in-law is plus 100?
The only logical numerical reason is that my -342 consists of lost brain cells,
while dear SIL is $100 ahead because she knows where I hide my wallet... Bc

I'm just curious, but how is it that this has been enacted for less than 24 hrs and some folks already have a significant green bar?

I've noticed a strong correlation between reputation and the number of jokes you make about your sister-in-law. Now I just have to figure out CincyCat's secret. :p
