Just because a scenario can be thought up doesn't mean it's likely to occur nor should it prevent you from taking appropriate action.
You have to think of all scenarios when coming up with a punishment like this. Now, if you were to say something akin to waiting until the player is indicted by a grand jury, then I might would be okay with that. But just an arrest? No.

People jump to the wrong conclusions all the time. I know I'm guilty of it. When the story first broke about Peterson, I won't lie, my very first thought was that he was in trouble for a simple spanking. Life, and common sense, dictated that I wouldn't take any position on the case until I heard all the facts. Once that happened, I agree with the DA and think AP did abuse his son. Saved myself from looking all sorts of stupid.

Same reason, if you'll remember, I took the stance of wait and see with Kapernick. A lot of people were saying he likely raped that woman. After all the facts were in, nothing happened. That's why I think waiting is the best plan. Saves everybody from looking stupid.

It's just not known to you.
I completely agree. It's the public awareness that is an issue. I know the firm I work for fired someone who was written up in the local newspaper for a DWI. We had clients asking us if that was the same person working on their project and if it was they had to reconsider using us. The choice the partners had to make was in keeping this guys or putting half a million dollars at risk. It wasn't really much of a choice so they let him go. He eventually got another job in the field but at that point his name wasn't out there. As long as he didn't do anything dumb again he'd have no problems and clients wouldn't care.
