Getting the chance to watch Jernigan live yesterday, that guy is the real deal. On one particular play Tyrod tried to escape the pocket and Jernigan was damn near stride for stride with him forcing him to the sideline.

There's also nothing stopping new players emerging into stars, as what happened with Seattle. The NFL is year to year, legends go and new players arise.

I agree. I also believe those once great defenses can be rebuilt, although they won't be as commonplace as they once were.

Yup and I watched the last 2 years of AFCN and teams moving down the field with ease. The great defensive players in this conference have for the most part moved on, or they are on their last leg (see Troy P in Pitt).

I think a lot of it has to do with the defensive coordinators as well.

A great defensive coordinator (or offensive coordinator) can scheme well enough to capitalize on mismatches, errant plays from the opposition, and get the most out of lesser players.

I'd sign for that in a heartbeat. Michael Dean Perry was a great player. He was about as disruptive as a pass rushing DT gets as we have seen in the past 25 years.

Not sure if Jernigan possess those explosive traits that those guys had. He looks more like a slightly more explosive Art Jones to me, with less size.
