Re: Probably better then Dalton
How do you know he is a Patriots fan? Source?
I like Barnwell and advanced stats do have a place in football (though not to the extent as baseball). I also think Flacco gets unfairly dinged because of the type of passer he is, generally. That said, this is a trade value column. I don't have a problem with Flacco being right outside the top 50 given the size of his contract and the down year last year. That certainly affects his trade value significantly. Not that it was wrong of the Ravens to give it to him.
I think he will see a pretty big bounce back this year.

Re: Probably better then Dalton
Well...he lives in MA. I've seen him on twitter discuss the Red Sox as a fan (in particular last year during their WS push). I kind of assumed a Red Sox fan living in MA would be likewise be a Patriots fan. Maybe he isn't, either way, he sure does run his mouth a lot.
My issue is the biased commentary. Why is Flacco's contract the only one labelled a "franchise killing" contract?
The Ravens franchise isn't even 20 years old, has won 2 SBs. And then Barnwell drops the "franchise killing" line? It is absurd. That is a lofty statement.

Re: Probably better then Dalton
Yeah, and I've seen internet links that say Jason La Canfora was a Red Sox fan..and nearly every night he is on twitter reacting as an O's fan. Point is - everything you read on the internet may not be true. Especially 5+ year old links from forum comments.
Here is a smart ass comment he made in December last year (cincy game I believe):
"Joe Flacco became elite after winning the Super Bowl so not sure how this is happening"
https://twitter.com/billbarnwell/sta...98790190923780
and another from Sept last season:
"Joe Flacco picked in the endzone and Eli Manning picked on a pass 25 yards away from any Giants receiver. You have to be elite to win the SB"

Re: Probably better then Dalton
What does this have to do with anything? I read, but don't post often.
Here is a link where Barnwell describes himself as a Giants fan.
http://grantland.com/the-triangle/th...d-robert-mays/
In the quotes above, he seems to be making fun of the idea of the idea of the "elite" qb controversy, not Flacco or Eli.
Really not trying to start anything - I indicated that I agree with you that "franchise killing" is over the top.

Re: Probably better then Dalton
FWIW I read it the same way; just a little sarcasm from him. Agreed the 'franchise killing' discredits his article but otherwise we are in somewhat of an era where a team with a cheap QB has an advantage during those first few years. Once they have to shell out that big contract it limits flexibility in other areas. But that's the cost of having a top QB and every team would like to have that problem

Re: Probably better then Dalton
Means nothing. But I've been at the "internet messageboard" thing long enough to know it can be a suspicious red flag.
From the comments he makes, to the articles he has written and is still writing, it seems pretty clear to me where he stands. To me it is not a coincidence all of the sarcastic comments and critiques all swirl around the same QB.
He labels Flacco inconsistent without ever asking why or discussing scheme and passing tendencies.
He views Flacco as a QB that is entirely dependent on his RB and defense...so much so that in 2012 he wrote an entire article about it...only to be covered in egg at the end of that season. That had to sting.

Re: Probably better then Dalton
ive read a few of his articles over the years and it does seem like he has an anti-flacco tendency. If the debate is you dont have to be an "elite" qb to win, than you probably shouldnt keep using the same QB to make your argument. The argument seems to be, joe flacco is not elite just because he won a SB rather than a QB doesnt have to be elite to win a SB.

Re: Probably better then Dalton
It seems he goes out of his way to get in a Flacco dig.
"Mike Glennon is outplaying Joe Flacco today. Not really close, either."
