Not a joke: Democrats to try to limit free speech by amending the Constitution
un-fuckin'-believable! You may have thought that far-left whacko liberals had already pushed the limit with Obamacare, economy-destructive spend-attacks, placing Commies in Federal judges, etc. But this one takes the cake. Move over "1984"! And if you thought that fascist totalitarian governments of the 1930s restricted freedoms, look what Chuck Shumer and 41 other pinko zealots are trying to do to our most precious of freedoms:
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) told attendees at a Family Research Council pastors retreat that Democrats wanted to limit free speech through amending the Constitution.
“When you think it can’t get any worse, it does,” Cruz said at the FRC’s Watchmen on the Wall 2014 event in Washington, D.C. on Thursday. “This year, I’m sorry to tell you, the United States Senate is going to be voting on a constitutional amendment to repeal the First Amendment.”
Calling these “perilous, perilous times,” Cruz said Senate Democrats have said they are ready to vote on the amendment, Senate Joint Resolution 19 – “an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relating to contributions and expenditures intended to affect elections.”
“Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has announced the Senate Democrats are scheduling a vote on a constitutional amendment to give Congress the authority to regulate political speech, because elected officials have decided they don’t like it when the citizenry has the temerity to criticize what they’ve done,”
This is the most vile, disgusting act that I have seen out of the Democratniks since George McGovern attempted to steal 100% of our inheritances.
Is there a Democrat out there who can support this attack on our most basic freedom? If so .... why? :hammer:In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

I'd like to see some proof of this coming from someplace else than Fox News and quoting only Cruz.
Sounds like a scare tactic to me...

According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Re: Not a joke: Democrats to try to limit free speech by amending the Constitution
The proposal is about limiting the raising and spending of money in politics, that the Supreme Court through Citizens United has deemed "free speech".
It has nothing to do with limiting a citizen's right to free speech. It is all about campaign finance reform.

Re: Not a joke: Democrats to try to limit free speech by amending the Constitution
Not surprised T. They already tried to limit the 2d Amendment but failed - this time. Had they control of both houses when they passed OBummer care they would have succeeded but it's coming. Maybe not in our life time but it's coming the socialists will win, just like Kruchev said in the 60s.
BiLL Maher, that famous libbie whacko on TV said the right think their precious constitution is so special, well it had to be changed over 20 times. It's not so perfect.
Stupid libbie is wrong again. The first 10 Amendments went in as the same time as the Constitution was finally signed after long delays of bickering between the large and small states. So the added amendments came after the original ones went in. It wasn't changed over 20 times but just look up the French Constitution and see how many times it has been changed since 1950.
But just think, the original contitution didn't even have freedom of speech or rights to carry arms until they were added in. Jeffereson about about 20 or 30 to add on but submitted 12. Ten were voted on then, the 11th one a long time aftwerwards and the 12th is debated every now and then.
But this gov't is trying to do away with the entire freaking document.Last edited by AirFlacco; 05-26-2014 at 10:09 PM.

The proposal is already available to the public, via the sponsor's (Sen Udall) website.

That's what he said. Expenditures means finance, money that affect elections. IMO

Much a due about nothing.
It's a toothless bill that needs 67 votes. Ain't happening.
It's a rally cry for both parties, as evidenced by the reactions here. Us Libertarians will sit back and munch popcorn, watching y'all fall for the party dogma.

Re: Not a joke: Democrats to try to limit free speech by amending the Constitution
The article was decent enough. I will agree there are always unintended consequences with any legislation. What about the unintended consequences of Citizens United and McCutcheon. It doesn't sit well with me that people can spend millions of dollars to influence elections/politicians, be they GOP or Democrat. Most of us don't have those type of resources. IMO it unfairly gives more power to those with the means and money. Their "free speech" is greater than ours. This proposal seeks to limit that.
