I think that Marlon can be a quality possession receiver if they teach him route running and how to take advantage of that 6'5" frame of his.

If Leone punts AS WELL or better than Koch he's got the job and the Ravens have about a $1.6 Million cap savings.

I think it's time to move on from Koch, but I think Harbaugh likes Koch's athleticism so he can run a fake every once in a while.

closed his career second on the UH career punting average chart with a 43.1 average ... had just three touchbacks on the year ... had 16 punts over 50 yards, including four over 60 yards ... forced opponents to call for a fair catch 34 times (46.6 percent) ... averaged over 44 yards a punt in seven of 13 games on the year ... also the team's kickoff specialist, sending 37 of his 78 kickoffs (47.4 percent) out for touchbacks ... averaged 63.5 yards per kickoff ... Houston's starting kicker for the first seven games of the season ... connected on all 32 of his extra point attempts and was 11-of-17 on field goals with a long of 40 yards ... named the team's Special Teams Co-MVP.
6'3" 215, this guy isn't coming here with a tryout in mind, he is coming here with an understanding that he has a fair shot at unseating the incumbent (as I'm sure he was told the current K Tucker did it to Cundiff in 2012)
He may not succeed, but this isn't a camp body to take a share of the punting for ST practice
The more I read on Leone, the more I'm sure he has a legit shot.... need to start hearing from training camp eyes later
at one point of my life I was exactly Pi years old

Am I crazy or does this guy Leone's photo in the link bear a passing resemblance to Tucker?

Why give him a two year extension then? I know the 2 year extension doesn't guarantee a roster spot (see David Reed last year), but it seems like they probably value him more than Hamilton, who is essentially a 26 year old rookie (27 in December).

Add either Travis Taylor or a cheap vet.

I hope he's a better QB than he was a WR.

If you eat your Wheaties and exercise, you, too, will make it into middle age and confuse Travis with Tyrod. :grbac:

Maybe Leone can do the same?

Perhaps Koch's trump card will be as Tucker's trusted holder. The Castle certainly doesn't want to do anything to disrupt this. Because Leone was also a PK, he did not hold in college. This doesn't mean he can't do it but he will have to prove he can do it in camp. If Leone punts well and can be a holder, the 80/20 rule applies but I think it is likely Koch would be asked to take a pay cut before being cut.

From Bob McGinn's insider comments from NFL scouts/coaches about Leone.

    3. RICHIE LEONE, Houston (6-3½, 211, 5.0, 7) – Punted and kicked off all four years, and also kicked field goals (11 of 17) in first seven games last season. "Like him — big kid," said one coach. "Forced a lot of fair catches this past year. Lot of inside-the-20 punts (34 of 73). But flexibility isn't great and he will outkick his coverage at times." Finished with 43.1 average on 219 punts and had just 18 touchbacks. Good, not great on kickoffs. Didn't hold. "He's really, really intelligent," another coach said. "He had a hell of a career." Out of Roswell, Ga.
