25 Top-Paid Athletes in the World
In the list compiled annually by ESPN The Magazine, Flacco came in tied at #9 with Matt Ryan.
http://espn.go.com/espn/notebook/_/i...-espn-magazine
The list is interesting (and outrageous, Matt Stafford at #6) in itself.
Now, please let me know if the following bit is just Baltimore complex. Here's all the ties in the list:
#9 Matt Ryan
#9 Joe Flacco
#12 Fernando Alonso
#12 Lewis Hamilton
#16 Ryan Howard
#16 Calvin Johnson
#16 Cliff Lee
#16 Peyton Manning
#20 Robinson Cano
#20 Prince Fielder
#20 Vladimir Klitschko
#25 Albert Pujols
#25 CC Sabathia
In ALL cases, of which there were plenty, ESPN used alphabetical order to list the names, EXCEPT in the case of Flacco and Ryan. Somehow, they HAD to put Ryan ahead of Flacco. Revealing.

How in the hell is Lebron James the 9th highest paid NBA player?
Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Yes, it is the Baltimore insecure complex.
As for the list, I'd like to see more about where they got the numbers. Where are they getting Joe's $30 million from? He's making just north of $20 million a year when it's averaged out and his guarantees are on the $50 million range.
And Wladimir Klitschko?!?! That has to be endorsement money. He's been fighting scrubs for 2 years so there's no way his purses have been that high.

Re: 25 Top-Paid Athletes in the World
It's the NBA salary cap but he makes about $40M in endorsements every year. It's crazy that the best player in the league gets paid the same as a bunch of other guys, even though it's a ton of money to most...
Kobe insisted on being top paid and you see what it did to that team... well that and bad decisions

I remember Shumacher was first in the world for awhile. He was making upwards of 100 million a year for Ferrari. Are any of those guys European soccer players? I know those guys make serious money.

Re: 25 Top-Paid Athletes in the World
I'm at a loss to the numbers..... Flacco 6 years and 120.6million has him earning 30 million a year?
They have to be doing something with bonus money (Aaron Rogers 40mil/yr and Stafford 31.5mil)
and not sure what they mean when they are claiming at the bottom to be using Base money or prize money only
does that rule out signing bonus/roster bonus as base money?
Flacco 30mil times 6 years is $180mil on a 120mil contract??at one point of my life I was exactly Pi years old

Re: 25 Top-Paid Athletes in the World
I have to believe that if you included endorsement money, the list would be radically different, and Joe (or Matt Ryan, for that matter) might not even be on it.
