Re: RSR 2014 NFL Mock Draft - Picks Thread

With the 12th pick, the New York Giants select Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA.

Barr is arguably the BPA here and he can play pretty much anywhere. I think he'd be a good SAM linebacker for the Giants who can drop down and rush the passer in sub-packages. He is surprisingly good in space, so I think this pick could make a lot of sense.

I was very close to taking Barr for the Titans, but I just value Gilbert a little higher.

    Taylor Lewan continues to slide...

Had you not taken Gilbert, I would have for the G-Men. Haha.

I did consider Zack Martin and Taylor Lewan...but I couldn't pass on Barr.

That was exactly the point. They had the 6th best offense in yards per game but couldn't get the ball in the endzone. Now, two dominant outside receivers with a 6'7" TE and Golden Tate as well as their RBs.
They can now spread every defense out to defend the entire field.
They need to finish drives. That IS their biggest achilles heal.
On defense, they do need help on the back end. And grabbing Barr would help the pass rush, IF he is the rush guy he is projected or thought to be. And Gilbert would have been a good pick, too.
But for the 10th pick, I had to take someone I thought was a can't miss and could be a difference maker right now. Megatron is aging. Take advantage of the great talent before it is gone. It is a passing league.
And you build a team to win your division first.

With the 13th pick, of the 2014 NFL draft, the St. Louis Rams select, Taylor Lewan, Offensive Tackle, University of Michigan

Lewan will immediately step in at right tackle as Roger Saffold goes back to right guard. The Rams now have some flexibility if Jake Long suffers a set-back during rehab or camp.

Well the picks this morning have all be excellent. It looks like it's quite possible that one of Dennard / Clinton-Dix will be available come #17. I don't think Donald or Ebron make it past the next 3 teams.

I wanted to get your guy's take on him. He's falling on a lot of mocks I see because of his inability to power rush. In mckshay's last mock he isn't even in the first round!

Barr is very raw. He could end up being Clay Mathews or Larry English. Both those guys were taken in the same draft at the same position and not too many picks apart. There were many of the same question marks that there are with Barr. Very difficult to know which way he'll go. A team like the Giants who had success with JPP might be the perfect spot to get the most out of Anthony Barr.
