Browns are placing the transition tag on center Alex Mack, which will give Cleveland chance to match any offer sheet he would sign.
How much? Isn't it the top 10 highest paid? Transition isn't as expensive as Exclusive.

There is only one OLine tag so it's almost $12M. Even though he's a center it's influenced by those big LT contracts too

Transition tag is significantly lower than the franchise tag.

Edit...transition tag is $10.3 million as opposed to the franchise tag at $11.6.

Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Yes they used the transition tag so it's $10.3M

Alex Mack should sprint to the pen and paper and sign his transition tender. A center making $10 million? Oy.

Transition tag is actually top 10 salaries instead of top 5. So for offensive linemen it's a slightly less 10 mil.

I think they are hoping someone signs him to an offer sheet, allowing that team to set the market for them. Pretty dumb gamble either way.

I think they are counting on some other team negotiating the contract for them.

Basically saying "you don't think we are offering enough money? Fine, take your best shot on the market and we'll match it".

I doubt they are planning on him playing on that contract this year.

If he signs it and they can't make a deal, he's going to force their hand. at this point why wouldn't he?

Yeah if I was Mack I'd already be on my way to sign that thing. Who decided it was a good idea to have 1 tender amount for 3 different positions with wildly different values?
