Again, the question is if he believes the problems were solely with execution, or did he see some issues with playcalling and scheme.

Everyone is quick to assume he thinks it was all execution, but I like to believe he knows our scheme wasn't perfect either.

I think we'd let him have someone as coordinator, but would likely block lateral moves unless we had no interest in retaining the guy.

Teryl Austin is likely going to be DC in Detroit. OC seems to be Clyde Christensen from the Colts.

So, I know I'm late to the Hostler information train...I just read his wiki page...holy crap.

As offensive coordinator for the 49ers, he was subject to much scrutiny and criticism regarding his playcalling. Among his most common criticisms was his inability to effectively use star running back Frank Gore, who led the National Football Conference (NFC) in rushing in 2006, but under Hostlers' play calling, was largely ineffective.[1][2] Gore publicly criticized Hostler, saying the team did not trust his play calling.[3] Midway into the 2007 season, the 49ers' offense was ranked last in the NFL, and the 49ers' rushing offense, ranked sixth the previous year, was ranked near the bottom of the league after eight games under Hostler's direction. Under Hostlers' direction, the 49ers fell behind every team in the league in the categories of total offense, yards passing, and yards per play.
Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

The read-option is part of Baylor's offense, but Montgomery also turned Kevin Kolb into an all-american at Houston. They also averaged 360 passing yards per game and 52 points per game. Granted, it is college AND it is the Big12, which is not known for stout collegiate defenses...but Montgomery could be interesting if he were to ever get a shot in the NFL.

How many saw a QB like Nick Foles effectively running Chip Kelly's offense?

    True.

He may take Hostler with him as his OC.

On the one hand, I'm sure there have been coaches who failed in their first gig, went back down a peg and improved to succeed in 2nd shot.

But that certainly doesn't look good to a team who just posted the lowest rushing performance in franchise history....

I was just referring to the part about being scared to hire anyone that could replace him. He should be scared hes going to get replaced if we dont turn things around. Bisciotti basically said if it doesnt this year, hes going to step in. thats a warm seat for Harbaugh.

As far as your point, I dont see how he looks at it and says that its not scheme related but weve had it for so long Im not sure that is what he sees.

Yea...his resume doesn't exactly speak to his ability as an offensive coach...

I'd be lying if I said I never wondered before how he lasted so long as the WRs coach here...

Someone needs to run these stats by the Ravens FO. Harbs should be aware he can't have this type of season again, so I'm seeing a more surething hire than a failed OC getting another chance. I wonder if Flacco gets any input at all (probably not) on how he feels about have Hostler at OC.

I read an article yesterday that said Jim Tressel would be a strong candidate as Caldwell's OC.
