Well, that's how things tend to work. Bad teams are bad because good players beat the snot out of them. Great teams are great because they neutralize their opponents.

If somebody "lights up" a "great defense" then people say "well, it wasn't a great defense, because they got lit up by so-and-so, and great defenses don't get lit up by anybody."

The inherent problem with using loose terms like "elite," "great" "clutch" or "the best." These terms are all meaningless, and can be easily altered to fit whatever it is that someone wants them to mean. The result is you can screw these words around to where QB 1 is elite, but QB 2 isn't (due to swapping the importance of some criterion or other with another one).

Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl was a top defense, he lit the Bears up when they still had top defenses, the Jets when they were 'good' (though the drives stalled in the redzone), the Texans last season on SNF, etc.

hate to say it but flacco is not elite. he is above average, a franchise qb, but nothing more

He didn't turn the ball over and still threw for like 250 or so. And that was with Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn at tailback that day.

He had 0 TDs and 2 INTs against CHI in that one NFCC game their SB year.

id like to see his all time stats against top 10 defenses. it wouldnt be pretty.

the difference between him & flacco is this: they give him green light to rip apart shit teams & thus boost his stats. while the ravens play conservatively against bad teams to secure victory.

True for Manning, Brady and Brees as well. Great players all, who are great fits in advanced / forward-thinking schemes. They're all great examples of right player, right scheme.

Kurt Warner was another example. Mike Martz had a great system with loads of talent, but Warner was hardly some ordinary guy benefiting from a crazy setup. He proved that by going to other teams and having lots of success.

Fun stat: Kurt Warner's career playoff record was 9-4 with one SB win. This is identical to Joe Flacco's playoff record.

Pssshhhhh 11 TDs and 0 INTs. Elite QBs put teams on their backs and win Super Bowls. Flacco has done it before and he'll do it again.

Look at the scheme they run in GB..like another poster said that scheme is killer. Rodgers has Jordy, Cobb and James Jones. Those 3 are better than any receiver we have. Brees has so many weapons not to mention Jimmy who's an absolute stud. Peyton has DT, Decker, Welker, and Julius Thomas...again better than any option Flacco has. Brady has the genius as a coach.

Flacco is successful in spite of what's around him not because of it. I mean just look at last seasons playoffs. They finally give Flacco some time in the pocket, a decent running game, and his WRs show up and we win a Super Bowl.

He has never put up fewer than 20 points in the playoffs...and in the playoff games he's lost, he's put up 45, 20, and 31 points in the playoffs.

How are those losses his fault?

Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

His defense is not "clutch." ;)

Anyone hear Aikman say that today's NFL is often a matter of who gets the ball last? My sentiments exactly.
