2013 season: A tribute to Ray Lewis

Seriously, if Ray were still playing, he would have willed us to another win or two this year. I knocked his declining skills last year, but he was the soul of this team and nothing has proven it more than his absence this year.

Ray, sorry for knocking you. You were the guts of this team and you inspired the team to a championship last year. There will never be another Raven like you.

    Bull shit.

I love Ray, but he wouldn't have made the offense suddenly go from a bottom feeder to being good.

Re: 2013 season: A tribute to Ray Lewis

    This year, we lost to:

    Buffalo by 3
    Packers at home by 2
    Steelers by 3
    Bears by 3
    Browns by 6

In the Packers, Bears, Browns and Steelers games, defensive collapses sealed our fate. You think Ray's leadership doesn't get us one of those games and hence the playoffs? That is the bullshit right there.

    Leadership was undervalued this year.

Leadership clearly lacked this year. But it's no excuse. The veterans knew that without Ray and Reed, we've lost some. And they didn't manage to make up for their losses. That's it.

Let's just hope this team gets back stronger next year.

I think Ray's (and Ed's) knowledge was missed more than anything. However, I don't believe that Ray would have made much of a difference in the running game. For much of the season, the Ravens averaged under 3 yards per carry. How would Ray have fixed that?

Defensive meltdowns aside (which I totally agree with your observations on those), the biggest culprit of the 8-8, non-playoff season was the offense's inability to score touchdowns.

I can agree with that also. It was reminiscent of the worst of the Cavanaugh days.

Also, I am not saying we would have been good. I am just saying we would have been better and likely in the playoffs.

I'll go out on a limb and say that having Ray Lewis (and certainly not Ed Reed) wouldn't have added a single win this season.

Ray is a better coach than Harbaugh for sure.
