There are LB's in the hall with lesser accomplishments. He won't go first ballot, but he's going in.
Charles Haley can't get into the HOF. Better player than Suggs and a lot more rings.

I'd say Suggs is 50/50 to get in HOF. And I think he needs a little more on his resume.

I'm sure we have other leaders, and other guys would step up, but you cut him, that'd be two years in a row you lose the figurehead of the defense. Tall order to expect continuity and continued development.
I saw D. Smith taking charge of the D this past Monday night positioning guysbased on the Lion's formations. Every time that Stafford went to a single set, Smith was rotating guys to the line for a blitz package. D. Smith seems to have taken on the leadership on the field.

The Ravens FO will assign a cap number value to Suggs services the next few years. If that doesn't mesh with the Suggs camp's financial expectations, he'll likely be released. The big question is what is Suggs value each year for the next 2-3yrs? My WAG ------ $10M (2014) - $8M (15) - $5M (16)??

If his career ended today, he is basically Joey Porter, without the uber-douchyness. Maybe somewhere between Porter and Charles Haley. Neither one is in the Hall, although Haley might get there one day.

Disagree that Haley was a better player and the individual stats bear that out. 6.5 more sacks and the individual stats are identical. And Haley was not the hybrid player that Suggs is, thus Haley has much lower tackle numbers. And Suggs stats will only go up from here since he's still got a few more years in him. He will surpass Haley in almost every measurable most likely.

Haley dumb lucked his way into at least one, arguably two, of his rings. But rings don't matter as much as the stats for HoF voting.

But that's kind of my point. His career ISN'T over yet so any comparison to Haley, Porter, et all is meaningless. Baring a catastrophic injury, he's more than likely going to surpass both of them and then some.

Do people really think Suggs is going in the HOF? There are 20 better LBs, DEs, or DE/LBs that AREN'T in the HOF. The DPOY helps, but he doesn't have the production or media attention to get in at this point, and his career arc isn't going to help him.

Suggs came in as a pass rush specialist, but morphed into an all-around guy who wasn't elite at anything for many years. Only recently did he really start putting up big sack numbers, and even then, HOF voters are going to see that if he gets 10 sacks in a season, 8 of them might come in 2 games. Suggs has always been prone to totally disappearing for long stretches of the season; I think it's a conditioning thing.

Calling Suggs a HOF lock looks like "recent player bias" to me. People are so caught up in today's game that they forget about how many dominant players from the past haven't made the Hall or took far too long to make it. People talk about how great certain modern players are, but you have guys like Alex Karras who are not in the HOF and will never make it, and they dominated the NFL for 10-15 years. It took guys like Jack Youngblood, Curley Culp, and Willie Davis many years to make it in.

People think we're playing in a great era of football, but IMO of the top 100 or so "great players" in the league right now, very few of them are even close to the greats of years past in terms of pure talent and football ability. The game has just changed so much to remove all physicality and toughness that it's closer to beach volleyball than the sport of years past, and I think that's damaged the quality of product on the field. Teams can barely even practice anymore which is why you see such poor tackling and offensive line play.

Don't count me as one of them, and I really like Suggs. IMO the HOF is for exceptional players like Ray Lewis. Suggs, while very good when he's on, is not in that special category for my taste. Glad the Ravens have him, ROH = Yes, but HOF = No... Bc

I think I agree that he will be a top priority for extension if not for improving his play in the end of this season, than for his leadership. The factor will be is Suggs' view on what he wants for his future. Will he take a home town discount or will he take a view like Reed and go for one more big paycheck. That will be a major factor in negotiations.

And there are players in the HOF who are not as good as he is.
