    It was a late hit on both of them...IIRC the play is dead when the QB starts to slide, not when he finishes the slide. They didn't even call the hit to the helmet.

    Elam's dumbass still dove head first into a sliding QB. Maybe he's pressing, but he did that, and then...I don't know what the fuck he did on that sideline pass...he dove head first again with no attempt at wrapping up.

    Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.
