Re: OT: Kubiak Fired
The issue here is that you would have a vertical passing OC, with a quick passing QB Coach. It was the same issue that came up with Zorn and Cameron. However, to GOTA's past points about a West Coast system here, Joe's great relationship with Zorn could be a sign that he'd not only be on board with it, but could excel in it.

Re: OT: Kubiak
What did those Houston teams really have? Andre Johnson and what else. He turned an UDFA into a star RB and got three good years out of him. He turned a backup QB into a star and got plenty of good years out of him. They never had a legitimate second WR or TE threat, Yet, the only reason they didn't beat Indianapolis was, because they could only score thirty, where Indianapolis would score thirty five.

Re: OT: Kubiak
Tough standard. I don't think reg season wins and division titles are "meaningless". They are real accomplishments. Yes, obviously Marvin's accomplishments are not, I dunno, "Belichikian" or "Lombardian", or on a par with John Harbaugh's. But they're not nothing, either.
I think the presence of 2 Super Bowl winners and perennial contenders in the division, has to affect the way we judge Marvin. There have not been a lot of "free wins" lying around in the division – a team as good as the Bengals have been over the last 10 years, would have been able to pick up more playoff appearances, and thus more playoff wins, in another division.
Bill Cowher was winless in the playoffs his first 3 seasons, and still below .500 in the postseason thru 9 years. The Steelers stayed the course. I think the Bengals decided after 2010 that Marvin wasn't the problem, and they've taken a page from the Steelers book. If you can't beat 'em, emulate 'em: keep continuity. They look like a good organization since 2010. I like what they've done the past few years.

Re: OT: Kubiak
I'd like to see Caldwell run the O with Pitta these last few weeks. I think his absence has been huge.
I agree Kubiak was kind of an overacheiver in Houston. They certainly didn't do much in the playoffs, which often comes from teams falling down to earth when playing somebody good, as opposed to Jax and Tenn every week.
a co-worker speculated that the league's D coaches figured them out this year. IIRC HST was 2-0 and had the lead here when Schaub threw the pick six, and then the wheels came off the cart (what was it, five straight games with a pick-six?). so maybe he had a good run with what he had before the luck/tricks ran out?
+1 bringing him here, I suspect he'll have no shortage of opportunities."Nothing stops these Baltimore Ravens. Beat them, injure them, shove them to the bottom of the standings, drag them into a hostile environment and mount a big lead, and they just keep trudging forward like nothing fazes them."
