    My Grocery Store Encounter ....

Older Mother in her 70's and her 30 something daughter approach me and my 4 month old daughter at the grocery today ....

Mother: I MUST see this baby! Oh my God she is adorable!
    Me: Thank you.
Mother: How old is she? Do you know?
Me: ... Uhh, of course. She's 4 months old
    Daughter: Mom, not again ....
Mother: And her feet are out of her blanket?!?! Why? Her feet must be freezing?
Me: <feeling her feet> Nope, they're quite warm.
    Daughter: MOM!!!
Mother: What?! I had to make sure. She's with her Dad after all.
Me: What the hell is that supposed to ....
Daughter: I am SO SORRY Sir <drags Mother away>

So Dad's don't know how to take care of their kids?

    Haha.

    Wow.

Should have gotten a free meal out of it being that she is old fashioned and all...

I've been all over the place with Jack and never had an experience like that.

Then again, you are in Texas and everything is backwards there... ;-)

    My guess it's generational.

    I've no doubt about that.

My wife's grandmother still can't get over the fact that I cook most of the dinners during the week. Whenever she talks to Ash on the phone she asks what is your husband making for dinner this week?

    I get it too.

Cooking is my real passion (outside of guns and fucking up message boards) and I used to get those snide comments a lot.

I'm a stay at home Dad now and the comments really ramped up after that.

    Yes and no.

Yes in that I was in my line of work for 15 years.

No in that I was traveling all the time.

Wouldn't trade it for the world now. Loving every minute of it so far.

Re: My Grocery Store Encounter ....

Breean and I go out all the time. Every week we go roaming around town, just hanging out and looking at toys. Afterwards it's the bookstore for coffee and chocolate milk. Every two weeks we go eat Chinese. Every place we visit that child has friends. At the bookstore, the ladies fuss at me if I come in without him. At the Chinese place, the owner comes over and sits with us.

Of course, he's five now, but even when he was a baby I'd take him places. Never had anybody tell me how to cover him up.

Usually we split up cooking, but this week I've done it all because she's had a hellish week at work.

80 pounds, and a little over four feet.

Yeah he's gonna be bigger, friendlier and much better looking that me. But I'm still smarter.

Re: My Grocery Store Encounter ....

Without going much into my personal situation...I do it all. I cook, I care for the kids majority of the time, mostly by myself, I do laundry, etc...

I don't get it too much, but occasionally I hear comments like "It's so refreshing to see Dad out with the kids" and people seeming to over-sympathize because Dad will struggle with kids. It's just funny to me, since my younger daughter was 3 months old, I've been doing it all.

Outsiders are going to judge, it's just what it is.
