I am not sure what people are seeing but these plays were not doomed from the beginning. In both plays if executed correctly they would have resulted in runs of at least 4 or 5 yards versus a loss or no gain. In the first play they had a blocker for each defender. McKinnie whiffed on his block. They had a TE coming across the formation. Not sure why Yanda did not stay on Taylor and have the TE block the LB. It looked like Yanda blocked Taylor and then moved on to the LB and the TE came in to block on Taylor. Definitely not more defenders than blockers. Not sure on the proper way to block it but if executed it should have been a big gain. In the second one yanda takes the wrong guy and lets Hawk into the backfield before the play really gets started. Had he blocked Hawk the rb would have had a few options that would have resulted in a positive play. He could have run it to the right behind Leach and Oher with the unblocked LB having to cover ground to make the tackle.
