Acquisition of Monroe Sends Ravens Directly to Cap Jail
Last night’s news that the Ravens had acquired Jacksonville Offensive Tackle Eugene Monroe was certainly a shock to Ravens fans. Given that Coach John Harbaugh very pointedly expressed his displeasure with the offensive line on Monday, a change wasn’t an unlikely expectation, however acquiring a quality Offensive Tackle of Monroe’s stature came totally out of the blue.
OZZIE STRIKES AGAIN!
But, while the rare in-season trade by the Wizard (has there ever been another for the Ravens?) leaves Baltimore with an abundance of Tackles, it also created a serious lack of Cap space for the team.

Re: Acquisition of Monroe Sends Ravens Directly to Cap Jail
Great article. I didnt realize how close to the cap we were. For some reason i thought we were around 3-4 million still and this wouldnt even be an issue. Unfortunate i was wrong but will be interested to see what moves they do.

Re: Acquisition of Monroe Sends Ravens Directly to Cap Jail
Thanks Brian
Would an injury settlement to McClain free anything?
I doubt if he would agree, especially since he hasn't been cleared and no timetable for it, but out of curiosity, would something like paying him 9/17 up front now save us the 4/17?at one point of my life I was exactly Pi years old

Ozzie wouldn't make this move to jeopardize the cap something tells me we will "suddenly" have room.

Re: Acquisition of Monroe Sends Ravens Directly to Cap Jail
Very good article, thanks for the detail.
I really hope they have an agreement in principle with Monroe to restructure and extend.

Re: Acquisition of Monroe Sends Ravens Directly to Cap Jail
This is what it smells like: bold move of this level has a few extra parts to it. If LT has been and was going to be a problem for the Ravens, and a solution as good and as reliable as this one could be negotiated, then restructure & extend is almost assured. Add in that his wife is from Baltimore, and he has a former teammate telling him how much nicer it is to be here... It all just seems to line up nicely.

Re: Acquisition of Monroe Sends Ravens Directly to Cap Jail
Would trading McKinnie free up some cap space? I am thinking of the Packers as a possible trade partner. They lost their starting LT to a season ending injury, and are really struggling at that position. I would take a 7th round pick for McKinnie, just to unload the prorated portion of his 2013 base pay. Denver has also lost their starting LT for the season, but the Ravens may have to play them again this year, so I would prefer the Ravens try and make such a trade with an NFC team. Also, didn't the Bears lose their starting LT for the season?

I would agree ... I am sure Oz has it already worked out.
Also I still love BigPlay's signature :
Thru week 4:
Marlon -> 61% catch rate; 23 targets for 14 recs for 150 yds (10.7 avg) and 3 TDs; $406,666 salary
Anquan -> 66% catch rate; 36 targets for 24 recs for 372 yds (15.5 avg) and 2 TDs; $6,000,000 salary (theoretical)"It is not how you play the game that matters... It is Winning The Super Bowl that counts"... Rumor Ray
