Re: Ray's Grammar Intervention
While we're on da subjeck--
< rant >
Orientation is a good noun derived from the verb to orient. "Orientate" is not a good verb & only persists in the language via continual misusage.
Likewise defense is a perfectly viable noun derived from the verb to defend. It is not a valid verb except in the mouths of imbecile or un(der)educated former athletes doing commentary. You don't "defense" a play, you defend against it.

Re: Ray's Grammar Intervention
Ha-ha. Nice catch. My point exactly. I have a degree in engineering yet I butcher the English language. :)
As for Ray, I love the guy and I actually think he is doing a fair job as a commentator. But his ability to deliver a coherent sentence is limited. When Joe said that he did not understand what Ray was talking about most of the time I think he was serious."I don't know a man on this Earth who can outwork me". Ray Lewis

Re: Ray's Grammar Intervention
Of course it is.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...m=trickeration
1. Trickeration
A fictitious word commonly used by football announcers to make themselves feel intelligent. When the word they actually mean to say is: Trickery. But we all know that most announcers never learned anything in school and just focused on football all day long.
Football Announcer: That play was just filled with trickeration!"I don't know a man on this Earth who can outwork me". Ray Lewis

Re: Ray's Grammar Intervention
I don't think it's fair to dog people for saying exspecially. (Unless if they actually write it out that way, lol.)
That's just a very minor example of hastily saying a word without annunciating.
Conversate I don't think is too big of a deal either. That's usually a result of starting to say converse but then changing to conversation.
Double negatives though... Those drive me bonkers.
