Looks like everyone proclaiming Kaep to be the "second coming" might have been well advised to see the larger sample size. He's had some great games against the Packers, that is for sure. Seems rather ordinary otherwise.

You can't consistently run the read option, because these QBs are going to get crushed. With that in mind, you can't effectively run the pistol for very long either. It just becomes another formation.

They are manning up on the WRs, loading the box to stop the run and forcing Kaepernick to throw, while trying to manage him with a contain style pass rush.

You would think that not many defenses have the personnel to do it, but the 49ers only legitimate WR is Boldin. With Davis out and no legitimate TE threat, safeties can focus even more on Kaepernick. They are pretty much forcing him to win the game all by himself.

The other way to play it is the way the Ravens did in the Super Bowl, to force Kaepernick to hand off to Gore and stuff Gore.
