Re: AFC starting to take shape

I definitely think Denver is going to be the team to beat in the AFC. They are well coached and offensively they are going to be the toughest to stop. They have 3 1,000+ yard receivers at their disposal.

Way too early, IMO, to say the AFC is shaping up one way or the other.

We can't draw too many conclusions after one week. If we did, the Ravens would have a losing record and be last in team defense. Not going to happen.

Perspective. The honeymoon is not necessarily an indicator of the looks or the outcome twenty years later.

I prefer to break the season into quarter poles to assess how teams are doing.

I heard some good stats this morning although I can't remember them all... but teams that go 2-0 have around a 60% chance of making the playoffs as opposed to teams that go 0-2 have a 12% chance. Oddly enough, last year they said 12 teams started 2-0 and only 3 made the playoffs...

( And maybe not even then )

I always say you don't know your teams until Thanksgiving. And as last year showed us, even then might be too early

You're so right. We may not know which teams will thrive/fall behind by Thanksgiving, but there's one thing I know for sure. My sister-in-law will show up empty handed, eat like she's been fasting for a month, then leave with a sizable bag of goodies my wife (her sister) will fill for her journey home. Of course I'll drive her home (38 miles) so she won't have to travel alone at night. Am I OT ??? ... Bc

Bingo! The Broncos were the clear cut favorites heading into last years playoffs yet they were a terrible 2-3 after week 5. The NFL season is a roller coaster ride. I don't care how convincingly a team wins. Don't start looking at favorites until Halloween or so and even then it can change often. Ravens fans should know this better then anyone after the Houston and Denver (reg season) games last year.

Denver is an offensive machine. Weapons all over the place.

And Fox/dDel Rio have the defense playing well despite the lack of a bunch of big names.

Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.
