    Re: Everything Guns (Part 2)

Still waiting on the ATF paperwork to clear on mine.

Next week it will be one full year since I submitted my NFA Trust to the ATF.

    Thanks, man.

I haven't been up on the military stuff since I retired. My office published the manuals and PR stuff on all the weapons
and I knew everything and even fired the M-16. I even had a job testing and firing tanks until I joked about pointing
the turret to Pissburgh and blowing it off the map-lol.

After all, I AM THE UBER RAVENS FAN!

YUp, that's the gun in the movie. Very powerful, streamlined and light weight like you said. Collapsable butt you say?
    Sounds like mine-lol.

Thanks Solo. I was hoping you'd chime in since you are the most recent vet. I didn't even know about the M-4 and
you're right and thanks for the pic. YOu'd love the movie if you haven't seen it yet.

I really miss working for the Army.

    Re: Everything Guns (Part 2)

    Thanks.

Since the thread's title says anything Guns, I'd like to discuss tanks if I may. As posted above I tested and fired tanks.
At the time it was the M60A3, the preferred tank of the US Army and 22 other countries. Isreal surrounded Egypt's entire
Army with these tanks and went in for the kill during the Yom Kipper War. The Egyptians surrended and Sadat kicked his Russian tanks out and bought a ton of these. Then the Russians assassinated him. At about the same time in the North about 60 of these tanks positioned high in the Golan Heights and knocked out 5,000 Russian tanks driven by the Syrians. Of course, the Israelies had the high ground but the Russian tanks were like sitting ducks.

This tank contributed to winning the Cold War and then the Abrams Laser tanks came out and were deployed in the
first Gulf War. They also knocked out about 5,000 Russian tanks operated by the Iraqies who said they never even saw them. They knocked them out from 25 miles away.

I never drove the laser tank but the M60 was state of the art at the time and freezing cold on the inside on a day like
this being enclosed in all that steel and blistering hot in the summer. We were the final testing ground for all the tanks
and weapons systems at APG before final deployment over seas and I was part of it as a civilian. They weren't deployed until my colleagues and I recommended it. I got a certificate of appreciation from the President for my contribution in winning the Cold War.

Here's the M60A3 that kicked that shit out of over 10,000 Russian tanks during the Cold War.

On a side note, another famous weapon that was developed at APG was the bazooka and named after a musical instrument of the 1920s. It was vital in stopping the Germans at Bastogne in the Battle of the Bulge. The Germans had Bastogne surrounded but after the 101st Airborne was dropped in with these weapons they stopped them cold. By the time Patton's army got to Bastogne to relieve the 101st the sun came out and the planes got into the air and knocked
out the rest of the German tanks and that was the war but the bazooka from APG kept Bastogne from being over-run and the Germans from taking Antwerpt and contolling our supply route from the sea.

Other weapons developed at APG was Agent Orange used during the Vietnam War and some say even the Aids virus was developed there. Everyone laughs but two scientists wrote a book about how we developed aids as a biological weapon and tested it in Africa where it got out of hand and why there is so much of it there. Everyone laughs except the scientific community. MyQuil, the aspirn was discovered at APG strictly by accident in a lab. APG was home of our
mustard gas depot until we destroyed most of it after SALT 2. A big stock pile of the shit was right next to the bldg I worked in for many years and I can think of over a dozen former co-workers that died of cancer over the years although all of them smoked.

Another true movie is Jacob's Ladder. It's about a chemical weapon developed at APG after the first Tet Offensive and
troop morale was low. The Army sprayed it on their own troops, a platoon to test it. It was supposed to make them more aggressive in killing the enemy but instead they killed each other. There were only a few survivors and the gov't killed all but one who went around the country looking for help and someone to tell the story to. A book and movie were finally made about it.

The lesson learned was that the military could have sprayed the entire population in N. Vietnam with the stuff and
every man and women would have killed each other without sending one soldier over to do it. Some scary stuff to
be sure and that's just the stuff we know about - all developed at APG.

Trap. I think you should put a period between the 2 and the 5 in 25 miles. That would be much more accurate.

Funny story. When I was a 55D assigned to the Tech Escort Unit, we were doing a series of range sweeps for UXOs behind the fence on the Edgewood area of APG (sometime between 81 and 85). One morning after a hard night out, I was assigned radio duty alone in a trailer near the sweep area. I guess I was dozing a little when a strong concussive wave shook the trailer; I immediately got on the radio and started asking if everybody was alright. My question was met with somethimng like - yeah, why? Just then another concusion shook the trailer; I looked outside and discovered I was maybe 150 meters from where they were testing the (at that time) new 120mm tank main gun. It was embarrassing then, but funny by that weekend and beyond.

At least I was right about the Iraquis not seeing them.

Great story. I was part of a sleep study whey they paid us to spend the night by the firing range and we had to wake up and press a button when we heard that sound. I had a hearing problem and they weren't going to let me participate but I had my hearing aid in. Man, I could hear it w/o the hearing aid. The neighbors complained about that noise and thus the study.

I know you guys. I worked for SBC COM in the security office. I researched everyone's background that wanted passes to go past the fence where all the stuff posted above is made. We came under the provo marshal's office.

You guys carried some dangerous shit man - all the dangerous chemicals we made. You transported it all over the place in convoy's which is why you were called Tec Escort. YOur boys always came into the office for passes.

One time the provo marshal wanted to run a drill to test the response time of the armed guards at the plants behind those barb wired fences. He gave me a toy grenade and said just walk down the street by the fence after dark. Instead, I improvised and crawed through the bushes and got up to the fence and started to cut my way thru when they got me.

They threw me down and frisked me and kicked me and yelled, he has a grenade. It was just a toy but pitch dark. They found my ID but still arrested and brought the provo down. Man, he was pissed. He said you were just supposed to walk past the fence Trap - that's all. YOu've seen too many James Bond movies.

Then he said I did well. He got the info he needed. He knew how secure they were.

Back in the office nobody got past the fence w/o my say so including 3 Russian Generals that
visited to witness the dismantling of that mustard gas and the nukes we had on post in the Edgewood Area. Nobody in the entire city of Baltimore knew we had nukes at APG until they took them down after SALT but neighbors in the Edgewood area heard some strange noises late at night-lol.

I had to verify they were real Generals. They were nice guys even though they were trying to kill us-lol.

I had some cool jobs for the Army. The entire plant was closed today. Nobody goes in when it snows-lol.

Here's the specs on that Laser tank. Like I said:

    _________________________________________________
In fact many Gunners relied on their "night" sights in full daylight. Such was not the case with the sights in the Iraqi tanks, which were being hit from units they could not even see.

No...had a guy (Master at Arms, go figure) clean his gun (or so he says) indoors and he put a bullet across the hall into another sailor's barracks room.
