Game Thread -- Falcons @ Ravens (Bird v. Bird Exhibition Edition)

I love it when people overreact to one preseason game.

It remind me of last year preseason game 2 against the Lions when the first team offense didn't score a touchdown. The Lions beat us 27-12.

Flacco went 7-12 for 79 yards and Ray Rice had 5 carries for 12 yards. Everybody was freaking out over the loss and how Calvin Johnson abused our team with 5 catches for 111 yards and a touchdown. It was hilarious just like now.

In the end, the Lions ended up 4-12 and we won the Superbowl.

So, people can lose their mind all they want too, it has no meaning on the regular season.

We didn't look anywhere near as bad in that game as tonight, I am sorry. We had a bunch of first downs and actually moved the ball:

J.Flacco pass short right to A.Boldin to BLT 46 for 11 yards
J.Flacco pass short right to R.Rice to BLT 34 for 9 yards

Good runs while Flacco was in:

R.Rice left guard to DET 9 for 9 yards
J.Jones right end pushed ob at DET 48 for 35 yards
B.Pierce right guard to DET 42 for 6 yards
B.Pierce left end to DET 31 for 7 yards

In last year's game we had actual drives consisting of first downs and collections of good plays. we had similar dumb penalties that killed our drives, but they were drives. Drives of 6 plays, 11 plays, 8 plays leading to 2 FG's.

Tonight was one great play and a bunch of horseshit. Drives of 3 plays (and out). 1 play for long score. 3 plays (and out). 3 plays and out. 2 plays and Intercepted. 6 plays and punt.

I would be less concerned, by far, if our 1st team offense looked like it did last year against Detroit.

I do care that other than one play, the first half looked like the first half of that infamous Jax game 2 years ago where we couldn't get a first down.

I'm proud of them youngins fighting hard to win. Love it. Coaching showing through there.

Goes to show our 1st teams' rustiness is a lot to do with timing (spent with each other and just plain chemistry and knowing the plays). Yes, there are some obvious concerns, but can't give up on the season.
