I think we forget that in 2011, his rookie year, he was the #3 WR for a stage when Doss was deactivated and Evans was hurt. He had an important sideline catch during the last drive in Pittsburgh that year that eventually culminated with the Smith last second TD. He's not particularly gifted as a WR, but he's not a hack of Smith proportions by any means.
    I agree about Williams.

I think Williams' biggest issue is he doesn't separate well from defensive backs and that hurts him.

Honestly, I'm not sure why he hasn't gotten more opportunity to play.

If Thompson gets IR'd theres literally 0 chance Doss gets cut from this team. even with Thompson im highly skeptical of any notion that thinks hes not still a top 5 WR on this team despite a mediocre preseason. If a vet becomes available ill revisit that thought but i dont see how hes off this team completely when we dont have much of anything else to trot out there.
I'm with you, JAB. I think Doss is a lot safer than most here believe. I'm not saying he's definitely going to make the squad, but I would be fairly surprised if he didn't. I think he's been bashed a little harder than necessary by a lot of folks here.

Doss is still just 23 years old. He hasn't developed as well as anyone liked, but he's still young. I know most people don't wanna hear this, but he's actually a full year younger than Tommy Streeter and a half year younger than Deonte Thompson, although both those players were drafted a year after him. I still have him making the team.

We really overrate Doss so much. I don't get the hype about him. Cool stand up guy but what he does on the field? He showed flashes but can he do it week in and week out?

That's pretty much in line with how I see Williams. My question has been -- is he inconsistent because he's just inconsistent, or is he inconsistent because he hasn't gotten enough playing time?

I think Williams doesnt offer much at all at WR honestly. Hes a solid ST guy but hes not been that consistent with his hands. Hell have a big play where he looks unstoppable and then come right back and drop the routine one and almost exclusively against lesser tiered guys. Id be willing to put him with the 1s to see but i think the little separation he gets is going to be that much more miniscule. if were going to be that hard on Doss and JJ, im not sure why the depth guys get a pass.

Its like if he isnt our 2nd WR hes automatically our worst. I still think he ends up getting a decent amount of playing time this year. Mostly because I dont think Jones being a 2 or 3 is realistic. Im more worried that hes still so high on our depth chart than Doss.

As much as I have dogged Doss, I actually agree with you that Jacoby Jones is an even bigger concern. You and I obviously have different opinions of Doss, but as terrible as he's been this preseason, Jones has been about as bad and yet he looks to still be locked in as the #2 WR. Doss has 1 catch for 5 yards and a TD, Jones has 1 catch for 4 yards. Doss caused 1 INT, Jones caused 2. Doss hasn't been getting open, neither has Jones.

It really isn't fair to put Doss on the roster bubble because of his bad preseason and not also ding Jones, who has had a very similar camp and offseason (although at least Doss was in shape for his conditioning test.) I get that Jacoby Jones had some great plays last year, but that was as a #3/#4 and return specialist, which is when he's always played best throughout his career.

IMO if I had to make 1 prediction for the Ravens' WR corps and stick by it... it would be that if Jacoby keeps the #2 WR job, he's going to have a bad year. Hate to say that, and would love to be proven wrong, but I REALLY don't want Jones lining up next to Torrey Smith come week 1 in Denver.

Da'Rick Rogers cut by the Bills. Lots of hype fromm fans that he'd be drafted by the middle rounds at the latest, he would up being undrafted. When that happened a lot of fans wanted to sign him but he signed with the Bills, a team like the Ravens that is short on WRs. His training camp was so stellar that he didn't even play in their 3rd game and it is of no surprise that he's cut.

Figuring out who is good and who isn't from our armchairs sure is hard.

Thats also not taking into account that Doss has had two of his catches come back due to penalty and a PI not sure about jones in that aspect. Doss is actually 2 for 5 officially. Jones is 3 for 6. I just dont see the reps needed to make that final decision. frankly most of our WRs dont have that many targets (I think brown's 6/9 is tops on the team), which is only going to make it harder. Hopefully they throw a lot this week but more likely more of the same.

JFC - Does anyone have it easier than NE?

NE opens at Buffalo and their rookie QB (EJ Manuel) may not play due to a knee procedure, while his backup, Kolb, out due to concussion - the Bills plan to start an UDFA Jeff Tule.

Sorry ass AFC East, I hope Miami can finally put something together this year.
