    Re: Training Camp 2013 Thread

I think the perfect summarization on Caleb Hanie's play was one play where he was trying to throw to Tommy Streeter. He threw it a good couple feet over the head of Streeter, who is already 6'5". Mind you, this wasn't a throw it away type situation...his pass was just THAT inaccurate.

To clarify, I'm not talking about a great deal of space, but just enough to make a QB like Joe comfortable. DMase space.

Deonte Thompson is intriguing to me. I am a huge college football fan and follow recruiting. He had superstar abilities coming out of high school. He fell victim to a poor offense and QB his last two years in college. The offense was awful. He was there for the transition from Urban "thug life" Meyer and Will Muschamp. Had he played in a more stable offense he would have been drafted. I think he catches about 40 balls and a few of them will be deep ones. He will be used to stretch the defense. I see JJ getting spot duty at wr to stretch the field as well. Doss and Mellette are interesting in that they may be able to fill the slot receiver opening. Both have decent size and could be used in the red zone. Doss did get open in limited snaps last year. He dropped a couple of TD passes. He was known for good hands prior to that.

I don't take too much away from open practices as the offense is very vanilla. Very few wrs are going to get separation in a vanilla offense. See Cam's offense the last 5 years.

Lost in all of the talk about losing Pitta is the stability on the line for the first time in years. The fact that Oher is at RT and McKinnie is at LT is huge. GG is a first time starter but he is in between two pro bowl caliber guards. Pierce and Rice as the best 1-2 punch in the league running behind that Oline is going to keep defenses on their toes. Deep threats on the outside with Dynamic run/rec options behind a very good oline. I am not worried about the offense. It would have been awesome with Pitta and will still be hard to defend even without him.

Hopefully Tyrod gets most of the preseason game snaps then, else they'll hardly be worth watching on offense. Hard for guys to make an impact when the QB can't even throw them the ball

    Re: Training Camp 2013 Thread

Red Zone offense is going to have to be a lot of TE and pounding the ball.

Re: Marlon Brown...he was a good player at Georgia. He could end up being like our version of Danario Alexander.

Wouldn't that be nice? A 6'5" receiver who can ball???

Marlon Brown, a UDFA from Georgia, had a productive afternoon. He moves well for his size (6’5”, 217) and caught everything thrown his way. He’s someone to watch during preseason games and at this point, he’s had a better camp than the 2012 6th-round pick Streeter.
^ from Tony's write up this morning. My $.02 on the comparison is that Brown looks like an actual football player with good body control for his height, while Streeter looks like a slightly clumsy basketball player.

    This made me laugh.

If Streeter was athletic enough to be a basketball player he'd have no trouble an NFL WR.

    Those damn clumsy basketball players.

Surrrrrre. Just swap sneaks for cleats and that's exactly why the list of NCAA basketball wash-outs that became game-day targeted WRs in the NFL is a mile long. Oh wait...

Yeah, they were washouts cause they weren't athletic enough, so they tried the sport that requires less athleticism.

Good post indeed. I think the Oline could be as good as it was from 08-09. It's a very big physical unit that's just going to go against defensive fronts, and show them that they are bigger than them. The offense will be quick tempo this year but with Rice and Pierce running behind a massive Oline like ours it's going to be tough coming back against us if we get a sizeable lead early on. Just try to stop the Ravens running the clock.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about and you are so confident in it. In a perverse way I admire that.

Anybody who is 6'6" or under and athletic enough to play in the NBA, could play in the NFL, from purely an athletic standpoint.
