There's a lot of preparation involved with Dancing with the Stars. It wouldn't surprise me if it took away from his focus. I still wouldn't be upset with him. You only get to live once.

Yeah I'm not really worried about it. Just for a guy as athletic as he is I just thought it was odd

Players who don't pass conditioning test usually go on PUP (see McKinnie last year). PUP is physically unable to perform, which can be injury or conditioning.
NFI is for injuries only, so he likely didn't pass his physical.
Or, at least, that's the way I've always understood it.
